We're supposed to know soon if he will renew the ban. I think his instructions were to give him a report 10 days before expiration so he can decide. Anyone care to guess?

K1 visa supporting financial docs for Montreal

Hi everyone, even though the Montreal embassy has not yet reopened, my fianc and I are starting to prepare documents for the interview since we ve received our NVC case number. I know that for the interview we have to provide Form I-134 and supporting financial documents for the K1 visa. The issue is - I graduated university in 2019 and didn t start my job until September 2019. I didn t have to file before 2018 and I only have my 2018 and 2019 tax returns. In my 2018 return, I obviously don t make enough since I was still a student but I made about $24000 in my 2019 tax return (even though my actual salary is almost triple that), and which is about $3k more than what is required for the fianc visa income requirements. However, there was an issue in filing my taxes this year due to Covid and therefore my tax refund and therefore tax transcript is still processing with the IRS and might still take longer. I already have my 2019 tax return that shows that I made $24k in 2019, but will this, along with my paystubs and offer letter showing my actual annual salary be enough for the interview? Or should I wait for my 2019 transcript too? Thanks

Wondering if anyone has chosen to abandon the K1 process and change to the CR1 instead.

How long did the CR1 take?

Me and my fiance have already applied for the K1 and are now waiting to receive packet 3. (delay due to COVID, but our NOA2 expires June 20th)

We are now considering abandoning the process and getting married instead in order to file for a CR1. A huge advantage would be that I would be able to continue to work here and then be able to look for work as soon as I enter the US rather than waiting for the AoS.

I still have my job in Canada but he has been laid off in the US due to COVID and therefore we would have a problem with the affadavit of support at this moment (no co-sponsor). Changing to a CR1 would buy us some time since we would need to start over.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did it work out for you?

Alright group I wanted to share some info that I received at the meeting I had with my senator's office today and I'm hoping you would all be willing to help me out-

I addressed concerns regarding the long interview wait times at Montreal and how this backlog is going to increase exponentially with Visa services being suspended for such a long time. Basically I wanted to know what is their game plan was to tackle this problem...

The liaison was actually extremely sympathetic to our scenarios and was very honest with me regarding what we can do to enact some change. While a full out policy change would be virtually impossible she said a bipartisan inquiry into the Montreal operations from multiple senators would garner some attention.

This is what was done last year to investigate the historically long wait times with the USCIS. After the inquiry the operations were suddenly allowing more electronic submissions and cases started moving a bit faster (not a whole lot faster but still better than probably most of our experiences with the Nebraska Service Center).

She said this would be a realistic option in trying to increase efficiency and case processing with the Montreal Consulate. In order to get this done though it would need to be a large number of senators that have seen their constituents affected by this consulate. She asked if I could pull a list of names of people who are in or have been in a similar situation with the Montreal consulate, their state, and the senator with whom they have worked with.

My goal is to inundate her with a huge list of names that there will be no choice but to pursue our matter. Once she receives this she will touch base with the respective immigration liaisons from each couple's state. This would apply to anyone that has already had their interview with MTL, is currently waiting, or will soon be documentarily qualified. I do ask that if you have already gotten your interview that you include how long your wait time was to receive your date and to please help us out!

If you are interested in helping me compile this please email me your name, state, and senator you have reached out to and I would be more than grateful to pass the information along.

Feel free to message me through VisaJourney. I am also planning on reaching out to folks through facebook groups so you may see my name pop up there as well. Thank you for your help and lets take some action!
