Anyone else have their interview cancelled at The US Embassy in Montreal? My interview was supposed to be March 30 2020 at 930 am .. I am in the dark about my documents as my Background check expires July 12 and My medical expires August 21st (ish). I can t update my medical because the office isn t open to them now and neither is the police station to update background checks. I find this so completely unfair to not be given any update giving peace of mind. The money that has been invested and most of all the emotional investment. Anyone hear anything at all??? Grasping at straws here

Hey everyone,

So I recently found out that the embassy in Montreal, Canada has our petition, however they would have received it after the closed and halted all routine visa services.

I'm a Canadian PR, my fianc is the US Citizen Petitioner.

I can't get through to anyone on the phone, they're all just automated messages that tell me to visit the website for more information so I resorted to emailing the embassy.

I brought up that our I-129F petition runs out on July 15th and asked if there was any way we could send another letter of intent to marry in the hopes of an extension on the petition.

After a week they finally got back to me and I'll quote the email response I received,

"

Good Morning,
Thank you for contacting us.
Only at the time of the interview the Consular Officer will determine the validity of the relationship and whether or not it warrants an extension of the I-129F. Please note that the Consular Officers are not legally required to automatically extend the validity of the I-129F for every case without evaluating the merits of each application.
Due to the significant worldwide challenges related to COVID-19, we are unable to predict when we will resume routine visa services. We will review your case when we resume our operations.
For further information about suspension of routine visa services, applicants should visit the Department of State website at: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/suspension-of-routine-visa-services.html

Thank you for your patience and cooperation."

Is there anything I can do in this situation, we were so close but hadn't received our interview date yet.

What happens if US/Canada border stays closed for a while?

I hope someone can answer this for me as I haven't been able to find an answer for it online and I wasn't sure what topic to post it under in here.

I am USC petitioning for my Canadian citizen spouse so we can relocate to the US to be near my family. We have been DQ'd and are waiting for the interview at the Montreal US consulate. They are still closed but we are trying to plan ahead and get answers to some questions. I'm sure when they reopen there will be a backlog of interviews so it could be a while until he gets one. Knowing that, and with the situation in the US the way it is with Covid19, the US/Canada border could remain to stay closed for a while. We presently live very close to the border here in Canada and we will be moving to the US only a few hours away so we will be driving across the border to move. We can't drive to the US right now to look for a house to buy and not sure when the travel ban will be lifted. Some here speculate it could go on for the rest of the year the way things are in the US. If my husband gets his his interview and his approval and we cannot cross the border for a while what could happen if his green card expires? I know we have six months from the time of the medical exam to relocate, and I know these are all what if's right now, but what happens if you cannot relocate within the six month time frame? We are just concerned his green card could expire through all of this.

Thanks in advance...

Passport Centre Closures - How do I Renew My Passport?

My (Canadian) passport is expiring in 6 months. I've been told I need a passport with at least 6 months before expiry, as part of my immigration package (we are currently waiting for the Welcome Letter). I'm worried that I'll get the letter and won't have an updated passport to send because of the passport centre closures.

I called and spoke to someone and they just reiterated the website, which states the below quote:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/passport.html#canada-urgent

The only one I could see vaguely applying would be a humanitarian reason towards me, as my immigration is pending based on my having an updated passport. Is there an angle I could take here?

Quote

You can only get passport or travel document services in Canada if you have a valid reason to travel urgently.

Valid urgent travel reasons include if you re travelling

  • for a medical reason because you have a serious illness
  • because of the serious illness or death of someone you know
  • because you ll have financial problems from the loss of a job or business
  • to support an essential service
  • for humanitarian reasons
    • You need a letter from your organization that lists the humanitarian reasons.

Should i move forward to NVC stage with kids cases or wait for the spouse approval

I have applied for I-130 for my spouse and two kids. So far USCIS has approved the petitions of my kids but my spouse s petition is still pending @VSC. My immediate family is suggesting me to move forward with the cases of my kids at NVC stage for DQ. So they can have a slot in the que for visa interview with MTL consulate after being documentary qualified. And I can add my spouse case once it is approved by USCIS and later request for same date interview.

First of all, I don t think it is possible and somehow I am not convinced with this idea. I should wait for the approval of my spouse case so that I can proceed with all petitions simultaneously. Secondly I am not sure if MTL consulate would like to have interview with my 10 and 16 yrs old.

Looking forward to your opinion.

Thanks
