Hi! I have a question about the birth certificate that the Canada Montreal US Consulate requires for the K1 interview. I have the small, square shaped birth certificate - does that suffice or do I need to order the Certified copy of birth registration from Service Ontario? Thank you.

New Green Card Laws for 2020? - Declaring Immigrant Status on Tax Return

Hello All,

What are these articles talking about (New laws for Green Card holders for 2020)? How do you declare that you are an immigrant on your tax return?

I'm a Green Card Holder (Lawful Permanent Resident) and have not come across this question (declaring immigration status) when filing taxes in previous years. Has this question been added for 2019 tax return?

My USC husband is currently a student and has no income, so we have a friend that will be my co-sponsor.

On the I-864 form Part 1, which box do I check off for my husband and for my co-sponsor?

Also, would my co-sponsor need to provide me with the proof of citizenship?

Thanks!

NVC Rejected documents and path forward - parents

Hoping to tap into the collective wisdom of the group. Both my parents are in the NVC stage and I am trying to get them Documentarily Qualified. Got an update a few days ago as each had a rejection

Mom: NVC asked for additional criminal/police record documentation for one of the countries they've lived in. Note that in my dad's file, the same document was submitted in his application and it was accepted without issue.

Dad: NVC asked for an updated criminal/police record for the country that they currently live in. Note that in my mother's file, the same document submitted in her application and it was accepted without issue.

Looking for some advice on how to respond

Option 1) Add only the docs requested for each file. Don't add anything other than what they asked for.

Option 2) In Mom's case, also add the updated criminal/police record for the country they currently live in, even though it was only asked for in my father's file. In my dad's case, add in the additional criminal/police record documentation asked for in mom's request, even though it was only asked for in mom's file.

I am leaning towards Option 1 and just bring the updated documentation to the interview just in case. Does anyone know if they're likely to go back on previously accepted documents and ask for the same things on both applications? Would just submitting the extra docs invite more scrutiny and lengthen the process?

Advice appreciated!

K1 Visa Expiration Question

Hi! I was one of the K1 applicants who had their interview cancelled back in March. My medical expires on Sept 3 (if the 6-month expiration still applies in covid circumstances). Say I get lucky and the consulate opens and I get my interview back in July or August - if I cross to the US in August with the K1, what happens when my medical expires on Sept 3? Do I have to leave the country, even though I'll have applied for AOS by then? Thank you.
