Hello, I'm not sure if anyone has answered this, but does anyone know if it's possible to cross the US-Canada Land Border on a CR-1 Visa? I know LPRs, US Citizens and 'essential' travel is exempted, however are Immigrant Visas considered essential travel and expressly permitted to enter the US via the land border into the US with the current closure, or do we need to fly for this? Thanks, CD

Alright, so I'm not sure if this would be considered a "red flag" to a CO or not. But before I petitioned my husband to join me in the US, we separated. I won't go into details, but after being miserable in Canada for 9 years, I decided to return to the US without my husband. I was in the US for 1 month before we reconciled and decided to give things a go. And now, although we're separated physically again, I think our marriage is stronger and better than ever. My question is, will this be a problem when we get to the interview stage? My husband was served separation orders after I left by my attorney, but I also rescinded the order when we decided to try reconciling. I'm just not sure if the US government will be able to see those records since 1) he never signed the paperwork and 2) they were served in a foreign country. Before our separation we had been living together for 9 years and married for almost 5 of those years. So I know that will help, but I'm now scared that our short legal separation might hinder things.

Hi all!! Im pretty new to this website. I have been searching around forums for a few days but haven't quite found answers i'm looking for. Im in a tough situation, let me explain. I am a Canadian citizen, I had an F1 visa from 2014-2018 and have had a TN visa since March 2019. With my visa I commuted back and forth between the US and Canada everyday for work. In March of 2020, I was laid off but my visa is still valid (until 2022) due to my lay off status (and now just hoping to get called back to work or find another job to transfer my visa) Anyways, my boyfriend is a USC and i'm trying to figure out what route we should take. Im not sure if i could go the AOS route (get married first of course!) since I am laid off but still have a valid TN visa, or if we should do the CR-1 route. I am currently in the US, visiting my boyfriend (and have been here for almost 30 days). Anyone have any advice? Much appreciated!

Bonjour hi! I'm currently waiting for my IR1 interview in a couple of weeks. My Canadian employer is aware of my situation and wants to keep me after I move. I now need to figure out how to set up the proper status for myself, taxes, etc. My accountant here told me that, should I work for my employer as a non-resident, I'd be taxed a lot up here in Canada. He recommended working as a US independent worker ("travailleuse autonome") instead. My employer is opened to this too. Has anyone had any experience with that? Is there anything in particular that I should consider? How long does it take to set it up? Needless to say I'm also doing research online and my employer will work on it too. However I'd love to get some feedback from fellow VJ members Thank you.
