Waiting on EAD

Hey all,
I can t seem to get a good answer to this question, I got my EAD approval for a few weeks now, however, I have not physically received the card and my online only indicates an approval....I received my social security card last weekend (a replacement card because I had a social years ago). Is it normal to receive your social security card before the EAD card and also can I seek employment with the social until I have the card physically. I tried calling USCIS for this but I can t seem to get to a representative.
