Hi!
My wife and I currently both live in Austria. I am the alien relative and she is the U.S. citizen. We are waiting on our I-130 approval and getting informed on the next steps.
Since my wife is a grad student and therefore unemployed, we are using my father-in-law as our joint sponsor. Him and my mother-in-law file taxes jointly. I have been reading the USCIS and Department of State websites, and can't seem to figure out exactly what the process looks like.
My wife, as the sponsor, has to fill out the I-864.
My father-in-law, as our joint sponsor, has to fill out the I-864 as well.
So, in total, 2 I-864 forms need to be filed. How many I-864As need to be filed?
Do my wife and father-in-law have to file the I-864A in addition, since they have the same U.S. residence and are therefore household members? Or are they not household members because she is over 21?
Does my mother-in-law have to fill out the I-864A, since her and my father-in-law file taxes together, making her the household member of the joint sponsor?
Also, do these documents need to be notarized? The USCIS website indicated that the I-864A should be notarized, however I have not seen this written on the forms.
And, lastly: can these forms be scanned and submitted online?
Thank you so much in advance for taking the time and patience to answer my questions!
