Argentinians in the U.S. - Emotional Support Group

Hello!

I found this area in VJ where we can have an off topic discussion. Since we wanted some sort of emotional support group, maybe we can use this thread to just talk about Argentinians in the USA and how they (and those of us married to them) are dealing with today's immigration process, moving to a new country, and handling life in general.

Thanks!

Hey y'all.

I got my green card after marrying a US-C back in December 2018.

We had been together for 2 years, got married in April 2018, we married in Bona Fides. The GC interview in December 2018 went very well and was super easy. Things turned a bit rough since my husband became very violent and abusive (verbally and physically). We separated in July 2019 and filed for divorce in December 2019 (summary of dissolution - AKA amicable divorce - in the state of California). Prior to December 2020 I have to file for ROC alone. I am still waiting for the final divorce decree.

I saw a counselor for over 7 months after the abuse episodes started and this specialists told me she would write a statement of her diagnosis and assessment of the case.

I have some other pictures taken (on top of the ones we presented for our initial interview) and a lot of text/calls. One of them basically states that he hit me. On top of that I have shared car insurance, shared health insurance, and lease. We now live apart of course.

I was planning on writing a statement for the USCIS officer to tell my story. I'll attach the counselor's document.

I saw an attorney a few months ago and she felt that the case was straight-forward and easy to approve, yet she disclaimed 'nothing is written on stone'.

What do you guys recommend I should do in order to prepare well?

Will an interview be required?

Any changes you have noticed with this new covid-era?

Any additional advice?

Not gonna lie, I'm terrified.

Thank you,

Hans-Peter

Hello all,

As most of you are aware, ICE announced yesterday that F1 student visas could not remain in the US if the University where they're studying decides to move the classes online.

I am working on CTP, and I am enrolled in a hybrid program. My school announced that: "there has not been time for a decision to be made. The school will inform all students, staff, and faculty when a further decision has been made."

Here is my dilemma, my wife (US Citizen) and I sent the AOS package to USCIS Chicago locker box lest week, awaiting NOA1. If my University goes online-only, which means I will have to leave the US. I have read that if I leave the United States without advance parole will abandon the I-485 application and will likely have trouble reentering. If I stay, I will lose my F1 status. Is anyone in a similar situation? Or can you give any valuable input?

Thank you for your time.

Emergency travel - My mom is sick

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone here went through a similar situation and how they resolved it. To make a long story short because I'm freaking out and extremely sensitive as I write this, my mom's cancer was in remission and today we found out that it's not anymore. I'm in the USA, she's in Argentina. I have a pending AOS (not even the EAD or AP yet...I haven't even received a biometrics appointment yet because of the pandemic). I have to request an emergency AP because the next steps in my mom's treatment are invasive and I can't be far away.

If someone requested an emergency AP, do you know whether they always give it to you with an expiration date? Or can it be TBD? (I don't know exactly when my mom will be stable enough... obviously).

Do you know how long they take to issue it?

I will call USCIS tomorrow but I don't expect them to be able to answer these questions very well... I will make an appointment as soon as I get the medical documentation and a note from the doctor explaining the situation. I just wanted to ask here while I'm waiting on this, to see if someone went through a similar situation and can share their experience.

Thank you so much!
