US Immigration from Argentina

Hola, escribo en espa ol ya que esta pregunta va dirigida a argentinos. Vivo en USA hace dos a os, vine con visa K1 y tengo green card hace un a o. Quiero renovar mi DNI y pasaporte argentinos ya que estan por vencer y los necesito para cuando voy de visita a Argentina. Mi pregunta surge ya que en Estados Unidos llevo el apellido de casada, o sea de mi marido, y mis documentos argentinos son con mi apellido de soltera. Si quiero renovar DNI y pasaporte, tendria que cambiar el apellido o puedo seguir usando el de soltera? Alguien que haya hecho esto? Y aparte de eso, deberia actualizar a mi nuevo domicilio en Estados Unidos? Como funciona? Muchas gracias por leer-

I understand that most people here are not approved for their green cards yet. First of all, I want to cheer you up, your approval will come soon!

If you have been married for less than 2 (two) years at the time of your GC approval, you will get a conditional green card. That green card will have an expiration date. Two years minus 90 days from that date, you will have to file for the I-751 , aka Removal of Conditions or ROC. There is a wonderful guide here in Visajourney for that. What I wanted to tell you is that once your approval comes, you want to make an envelope/ box, label it ROC evidence or something easily identifiable, and be intentional in collecting evidence. Be proactive.

So you are wondering, what evidence is solid for the i-751?

- Joint bank accounts

- Joint tax returns.

- Joint car/ health insurance

- Joint retirement accounts or 401ks

- Joint leases/ deeds/ mortgages

- Living wills, POAs, etc.

This is what I call "primary" evidence. Some of you for AOS might not have joint bank accounts with your spouses, but that is something to consider for ROC.

Additionally, you can also include trip reservations, pictures, affidavits, memberships, etc. This is what I call "secondary" evidence, which is not nearly as strong as the primary one, but it can help if your package lacks some of the primary ones.

I am about to submit my ROC package in two days, and so I have been visiting the ROC forum long enough to see that some couples try to gather evidence last minute. This can be easily avoided if you plan ahead of time. If you are proactive, all you will have to do is to put the package together. Happy journey, everyone!

In the last few days I ve seen several posts of people that cannot get ahold of the SS office and don t know what to do when they request you to mail your passport/ your green card.
First, let me preface you with this: we permanent residents are legally bound to carry out GCs with us all the time. Therefore, you should never EVER mail it. Period.
Second, perhaps this mostly applies to smaller States, but most likely the people that work at the SS don t understand the importance of a green card, so they might not try to accommodate you for an in- person appointment.

Third, been there, done that. I tried calling my local SS for several days, and either they didn t answer or they kept telling me to mail my documents. I cannot stress this enough: the U.S postal system can be unreliable, so please NEVER EVER mail your documents.
Instead, what you do is to call your Congressman / Senator and tell them about your issue. Be sure to explain why you shouldn t mail your card. I did it and I know that @Trutta did it too. We were both successful and got our appointments in less than two days!
