My husband and I met in graduate school in NJ in 1996. We were married in January 2002. Our daughter was born in 2004. In May 2006 my husband graduated with his PhD and accepted a job back home in Arusha, Tanzania, so the three of us moved there. In December 2007, our daughter and I came back to the States, and hoped that my husband would join us shortly thereafter. We were completely ignorant of the K-3 process at that time, otherwise we would have done this another way. Mostly, we are now kicking ourselves that we did not apply for a change of status while he was here on a student visa. Hindsight is 20-20, right? So, we've been separated for ten months. In June our son was born, and my husband is missing him and his big sister. I thought that the K class visas were designed to keep families together. Apparently not so.
