  1. Thank you for your response! We filed married filing separately since I have read the process of obtaining a ITIN can be a bit arduous. But I will definitely look into that! Red flags you mentioned is not an issue. We did submit boarding passes of our three trips together in the last two years and plenty of photos together and photos with family too and of our wedding. And have an upcoming trip planned for summer
  2. Thank you! Can you explain what you mean by the last part? I am familiar with the affidavit of support but just wondering what the connection is with that?
  3. Hi there! I have a bit of a small question that I haven't read about before so I just wanted to check with anyone here. I'm the USC and my spouse (Tunisian) was able to add me to his health insurances at his work, in case anything major were to happen while we are waiting for the approval since healthcare is good there and not as expensive as the US. He also listed me as the beneficiary of the payments from his work in case of his death, etc. I uploaded this evidence with a certified translation - I think I'm overthinking it but I just wanted to know if it matters that I included this since it's not US based insurance stuff, I know they generally want evidence of US based things, but we don't have that since we live in different countries and he needs SSN to be added on most everything here. (We also uploaded one year of call logs, some screenshots of our convos and shows one of the gold necklaces he bought for me, wedding photos, trip photos and all our boarding passes along with this). Thanks in advance for anyone who can reassure me or advise me if this is all good.
  4. Hey there! We filed on February 10, I also noticed that a myprogress tab has appeared on ours too with an estimate of 2 months as well. I do also think these are not very accurate since I've seen others who posted that they change often and don't follow the estimate. How I wish 2 months was true!
  5. Yes, married filing separately. In order to file jointly you need to obtain an ITIN number for your spouse and submit a lot of documentation which can be rather cumbersome. It's better to file MFS now and then once your spouse gets a SSN, you can amend your taxes and file MFJ. That's what we plan to do!
  6. In the state of Tennessee you can opt to change your maiden name to your middle name when you apply for a new social security card using your certified marriage certificate as proof, I also didn’t know about it either until recently my married coworkers told me they did this - I never heard of anyone in my home state (Maryland) doing this, so I’m not sure if the requirements vary from state to state .
  7. Thank you so much for your input! I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get the ball rolling in changing my name since I didn’t list it on the I-130. I guess it’s much easier since I’m the US citizen so they can look into my social security number and see my current and previous names too.
  8. This is what I used to file my taxes too. TaxSlayer and TurboTax would not allow me to bypass the SSN and e-file. Had 0 issues with H&R Block
  9. I filed mine as married filing separately and plan to amend mine as married filing jointly once my husband gets a SSN. Head of household would depend on your situation if you have dependents or not. The only way that you can’t file taxes is as single if you’re married.
  10. Ohhh okay thank you! I was just worried since I didn’t list it on the I-130. So when I fill out the affidavit of support etc i should just put my new name and middle name down?
  11. Hi guys! My husband (beneficiary) and I (US citizen)have just recently filed our I-130. I kept my last name as my maiden name on the I-130 as I have not officially changed it anywhere due to tax season being close after our marriage and didn’t want any issues with any of our documents not matching… since as you know, it’s a process to change everything I wanted to know if it would be okay to change my last name officially everywhere since I’ve already submitted the I-130, or is it more advisable to wait until the whole process is over with? I also planned to change my middle name to my maiden name too, if that matters (you can do it here in my state after marriage). Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
