What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas! I went to Vegas for Spring Break with my cousin and friend. On our last full day, we decided to enjoy it lounging by the pool. A couple guys from London approached us and I was immediately attracted to one of them
We all talked for awhile and when they asked for one of our numbers, I quickly spoke up. We all arranged to meet up at a club later that night, but being girls, it took us longer to get ready than we had anticipated. As we finally entered the club , two hours late, the guys were just leaving thinking we had stood them up! We exchanged a hello and went on about our night. I didn’t think to much of it knowing he lived in another country, thinking I would never see him again anyway. Two days later, I received a text from him saying he had just landed in London. Ever since that day, we haven’t gone one single day without talking!
From texting to FaceTiming and eventually several visits, we fell in love. The first time he came to visit me was two months after Vegas. I just finished up my semester and had a trip planned to Wisconsin to visit my family. He had no more time off, but was eager to see me again, so he quit his job and booked a plane ticket to Madison. We had an amazing week together; State Street, the Dells, Brat Fest in addition to spending time with lots of my family. Our time together came to an end all too soon! Before I knew it, I was dropping him off to the airport. I was so sad to see him go that I booked a ticket to London leaving the fourth of July that very day! We continued to FaceTime every day working around our 8 hour time difference. It was like we were together in a sense, even sleeping together over FaceTime. Finally, the long awaited day was almost here. The night before I was to leave for London, my sister and I ran a few last minute errands. We returned to our house to find our door wide open! Someone had broken in and stole clothes, my laptop and even my passport. I was devastated! Not only was it impossible to fly out the next day, but the computer that was the basis of our entire relationship was also taken! I called him constantly until he woke up to relay the bad news. We were both so upset knowing I wouldn’t be able to board without a passport. That day he surprised me by booking a flight to San Diego! He arrived two days later; I couldn’t believe it! I was so excited to show him my school, go hiking and just enjoy his company. I was able to rebook my flight and visit him on his birthday. As I was leaving customs, there he was standing right in front, waiting for me! On the way to his house, I was beyond nervous with the thought of meeting his family, however; that quickly vanished when they welcomed me with open arms. I instantly took a liking to his mother. As we were sitting on the couch, she asked me when I was going to marry her son. I was surprised, but honored that she had taken as much of a liking to me as I did her and her family. Despite the expensive airfare and the struggles of a long distance relationship, I knew he was the one I wanted to spend my life with and one day start a family. I returned to San Diego thinking I wasn’t going to see him again until Christmas. However, unable to keep a secret, he told me he had booked a flight soon after dropping me at the airport. He would be coming for my birthday! So two months later, I was picking him up at the airport. He booked a hotel in downtown San Diego and took me to a beautiful rooftop restaurant overlooking the city for my birthday. All of a sudden, he took me by surprise when he asked me to marry him. Initially, I was speechless, even though we had spoken about it before. Of course I said yes, wanting nothing more then to spend the rest of my life with him. After endless paper work, as well as paying government fees, we are anxiously awaiting his Visa. We will be spending Christmas in Madison with both our families. It will be a wonderful opportunity for my family and his to get to know one another prior to our wedding.
Never did I think I would see him again after that brief encounter in Las Vegas, but so thankful he decided to text me again when he landed in London. We were able to build a strong foundation with one another before getting into a serious relationship. I fell head over heels with him through texting and FaceTime and then fell totally in love after being able to spend quality time with him. I look forward to becoming his wife on July 5, 2014 and spending the rest of my life with him.
