My Emergency AP Experience

Without having much luck getting my questions answered via the USCIS toll-free number, I decided to head down to my local office (without INFOPASS appointment). With only my AP receipt notice form on-hand, and my wife not with me, I made my way to the office. Expecting to get turned down at the front door, I was surprised to find that the Phoenix office allows walk-ups for informational purposes. When I reached the counter, I explained to the officer that I wanted to know the proceedures for applying for Emergency AP. She told me that I needed to speak to a Supervisor and to step aside. About 10 minutes later, a woman appeared and asked me why I was there. I simply told her I needed to understand that process for applying for Emergency AP as my wife wanted to go home to take care of her ill mother. The Supervisor said, "OK, let me call Nebraska". With a quick phone call, everything was done. I was only asked to produce a credit card number to pay for the DHL delivery of the documents. Today, the documents were delivered as promised. I still can't believe how simple it was. Now, if only the Green Card process was as quick. :)

WOW! That's the way it should be with USCIS as we are their "customers" and should be treated as such!

Not often does one see positive incidents like this.

Good work Phonenix Guy!

Congrats!!!

I had to go to the Seattle office to get my Emergency AP, and even though I did eventually get it, I had to wait for over 5 hours to get it. The staff at the Seattle office are not overly "quick" at anything, except going for coffee break, coming back from coffee break, going for lunch, talking about their weekend with fellow employees at the photocopier, etc., etc., etc.........

Did you already have your AP application sent in is that why it was so quick? I need to file for it. Should I just go to the office with the packet + $ and the reason or ... ?

Yes and No. First the yes ... my AP application was sent, processed, and I-797C received. But now to the no ... I don't think it was because my application was already logged by USCIS that it was so quick. I think I was fortunate to have met such a cooperative and responsive local office representative. To me, I think it's all about perception. These folks are trained to differentiate the honest people, from the BS-artists. I came with an honest and sincere request, and they responded. If I came with some made-up story just to get AP, they would see it, and respond accordingly (most likely making you jump through hoops).

At the end of the day, I say go for it! All they can say is No. Bring all you have, and just be yourself. That's what I did. Good luck with it!
