So here is our write up for the interview at Montreal. What a complete waste of time. Both in waiting 6 months for the interview and the time spent traveling there and having it. I really should just leave it at that but I guess you all won't have any of that so here are the details.

We got there around 7:30. There were aproximately 5 people ahead of us. Took nothing but the paperwork and a couple of books. Getting in was a breeze the guards were very nice and helpful. They look at your letter and then tell you to go to a certain window when you get upstairs. By the way. If you didn't know what you were looking for you never would find the consolate. There is and emblem above the door but that is it. If you are standing on the corner of St Alexandre and Rene Levesque, walk down St Alexandre and the door is on the right. There are no flags ar signs, just the emblem above the door.

After clearing the checkpoint. We went downstairs and sat for about 15 minutes and then the guard came down and escorted everyone up to the nineteenth floor. We went to the aforementioned window. We are surmising that the young lady manning the window had a very late night the previous evening since it was a while before the window was opened. We were kept entertained by the new baby in Michigan garb and, well one persons new "set" was about the same age. (I'm supposed to say the people watching was good) Once the girls showed up, the line went quick and she again checked our letter and then gave us a number (C3) and sent us to sit again.

We had to wait about an hour and then finally our number flashed on the screen and we went up to the designated window. The woman took our packet and put it together with with whatever paperwork she had. We did not need the x-rays. glad we didn't drag them along. She sent me (the USC) to pay the fee so it was good I went along. She went through the checklist so if you have your documents in the same order as the checklist they send you it is probably helpful to them. I actually thought this was going to be the interview when she ask when we planned tp move but nooooooo. She took the finger prints for my fiancee and her daughter and then told us to go sit down again.

We again waited about an hour and then our number again flashed up on the panel. We trudged up to a room and went inside. Think a single bank teller in a little room and you get the picture. We could barely hear the woman so my fiancee had to continously ask her to repeat herself. She reviewed our paperwork again and then ask my fiancee a single question. How did you meet. My fincee responded and then the woman gave her the hand signal to elaborate so she really wanted a disertation on our relationship. She gave the woman a brief history of the last couple of years. That seemed to satisfy herand she made some notes and then said "We will able to send your visa to you in about a week". That was it. no your approved. No woo hoo or anything. Not even a enjoy your life in the United States. It actually took a couple of seconds for it to sink in what she had said.

We left the consolate smiling broadly. Well the two of us anyways. (Her daughter isn't too happy about moving)

Oh by the way we were approved. Moving day is November 13th and the wedding is November 24th. :)

Oh a little blurb about the Hotel. We stayed at the La Tour Centre-Ville. In my humble opinion, 2 star at best. It was clean and extremely close to the consolate, that is about the best I can say for it. The staff was nice enough but they messed up our reservation and were unwilling and or unable to remedy the error or provide compensation. Oh, and if you drive, don't bring anything too big. My Highlander barely fit under the door and the parking is very tight and narrow. My fiancee adds that the water is very hard.

When I read this I thought you hadn't been approved!! I read that as recently as just a few years ago (pre 911 I suppose) some people weren't even called for interviews - I wish that were the case now.

Anyway, glad to hear it all went so well for you, congratulations!

I will make arrangements to bring my 13 yr old daughter with me to the interview, whenever that may be. My daughter is not too thrilled at moving either. Same here with regards to Kristy's seven year-old. She wants to be a happy family living together, but she doesn't want to leave her neighborhood friends. And also based on that review, if the daughter had her fingerprints taken, that we should bring Kristy's daughter, too. Although, sixteen hours out of forty-eight in a car does not sound like very much fun with a seven year old. At least I got her a portable DVD player for her birthday a couple of months ago to keep her occupied.
