To All VJ Muslim Members, Saudi Arabia just announced that today Thursday is the last day of the month of Ramadan, and tomor Friday is Eid Al-Fitri.

05/21/2008 - AOS & EAD touched

05/29/2008 - AOS tranfered to CSC

06/04/2008 - AOS touched

See that is what I never get.

If someone genuinely spotted the crescent moon in Saudi, wouldn't it stand to figure that when our side of the globe gets to that spot we'll see it as well?

See that is what I never get.

If someone genuinely spotted the crescent moon in Saudi, wouldn't it stand to figure that when our side of the globe gets to that spot we'll see it as well?

I think it's just resulting from different methods of determining when the new moon is. I guess that if you go based on observation, Eid would be tomorrow. But based on prior calculations (you know how you can see the new moon dates on a standard calendar), Eid is Saturday.

I just spoke to my parents (they live in Saudi Arabia) and they said that Eid is Friday.

I think that the reason people have Eid on different days because people insist on sighting the moon themselves instead of following the people who are in the time zones ahead of them (which would make sense).

Anyway, that is my source :)

Exactly. Now the month of Ramadan has 29 days in KSA but 30 days here!

I think the scientific calculations just make everyone confused, so I guess we will see if we see the new moon tonight! Everyone keeps saying it's either or based on the moon sighting so we will see. :)
