How can WE protest the "Immigration Reform"

The more I read about the protests, by non-other than "Illegal" immigrants, who are protesting in Spanish none-the-less, the more infuriated I become! I just can't imagine the nerve of these people to criticize the country they illegally reside in!!! :ranting:

Considering all the people here on VJ, and all the others who are going through all the cost, the waiting, the frustration, and pain of bringing their loved ones to the U.S. legally, it just doesn't seem fair, and makes me want to scream! :protest:

Has anyone found for us to voice our opinions about how wrong this is? I have never contacted a congressman or senator before, but this is one time that I really want too, but at the same time, I don't want anything to interfere with bringing my fiancée here!

God forbid they loose their cheap workforce and have jobs leave the U.S., but lets get real! Do they think that people who have broken the law (at least once, if not more) will go along with their new procedures? I really wonder about the intelligence, or lack thereof, of the people running this country, and why we are trying so hard to bring our loved ones here to put up with the same bureaucratic incompetence.

Anyway... just needed to vent!

As I've said elsewhere, I'm all in favor of holding our own protests, protests that emphasize the need to overhaul the whole immigration system. While concentrating on illegals and their purported rights may be fashionable, what most of us really want is facilitated access for legal immigrants in general and family-based immigrants in particular.

So my suggestion would be to organize focus groups by region and see if we can hook up with other people going through family immigration or work-related immigration (from what I've read there are immigrant support networks). Then, we should try to hold huge marches against any meaningful immigration reform in 4-6 weeks in key cities (New York, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, and so on).

There are 20,000,000 to 30,000,000 legal immigrants in the country which need to be mobilized and which can be mobilized since they all have to deal with USCIS and US immigration law. Andn those are the people who are ignored by any immigration reform focusing on illegals. Something has to be done about illegal immigrants, but it would be nice if someone in Washington realized that something needs to be done for legal immigrants as well.

I wondered about drafting a letter with a space for everyone to add their personal experiences, putting it on here and everyone sending it to the White House. There are other forums we could tap also, and something needs to be done.

Local media could be a good outlet in some areas, if anyone's inclined to write a letter to the editor, or an op-ed piece; after all, it's a hot topic right now, I'm sure local press would print it.

Oh, and I emailed Lou Dobbs the other day :P

I'm game if you guys are....

I'm in.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It's almost always the people who have a lot to lose or think they have a lot to lose, who protest.

We are neither.

Or those who want to change things for other people.

I've been away from the VJ board for a while (enjoying actually LIVING with my spouse....) but I just KNEW this had to be a hot topic!!! I'm pretty annoyed as well, thinking about all of the time, money, stress, etc. we put into this to do things the RIGHT way. It amazes me that we were scared half to death throughout the process, praying that everything would be approved even though we did everything by the book, yet there are people flaunting their illegal status and demanding "rights" that don't belong to them. What???? I understand wanting a better life for your family but DO IT THE RIGHT WAY!!!!

I feel much better now........... :)
