Hi VJ members,

This is my first post but I am not new to the site as I was able to get a lot of information and motivation from reading the posts here, especially for June 07 filers. I know this may seem long but please, if anyone has any advice, suggestions or similar cases, please reply.

I have been blessed, I filed my AOS, Advanced Parole and Work Permit concurrently and it was received on May 18th, I got an RFE which was returned and processing resumed on June 26th.

Travel Documents – received August 3rd

EAD – received August 9th

Green Card - approved August 6th

Green Card – received September 6th (yes, 1 whole month later, I guess someone fell asleep and forgot to order my card production!)

Ok, so I took my green card to the DMV to get my drivers license and was told that they cannot accept it because my middle name is spelt wrong – I had not even noticed. At the top of the card it has

LastName, FirstName, MiddleInitial

At the bottom of the card if has

LastName>> FirstName>> MiddleName but my middle name is spelt wrong>>

I made an info pass appointment and went to Baltimore where the officer snapped at me and told me that it is not an error and that is not my name. I told her I know it’s not my name, its spelt wrong! She said that my middle name is not on the card and if the DMV gives me any issues I am to tell them to submit a form G845

To be sure, I called the ‘mis-information line’ and was told that I still need to file a form i-90 to get a new card even though the officer said it was ok. That person on the phone was very rude so I hung up and called right back and the 2nd person I spoke with said I should listen to the lady at the info pass appointment and if anyone asks tell them that she said that it is fine, its not my middle name it’s a code and they are to call to verify my status is they have any issues. 2 calls, same issue, same day, 5 minutes apart and I got 2 different answers :angry::crying:

What do you think, should I keep this card and constantly argue with anyone who notices the ‘name’ at the bottom or should I submit a i90 for a new card? :help:

Exactly the same thing happened to me... my middle name is spelt wrong at the bottom of the card. I went to an Infopass to see if it would really matter... and was told that I should send it back and file an I-90, because it might cause problems later on, so better to sort it out now... sigh. I sent my green card back the day after I received it, August 14th... not heard anything yet, and am not expecting to, because it seems like they take forever to fix! There's a I-90 thread about here somewhere... aha, here! A few of us about here who've filed I-90s recently-ish... and a few who've received their corrected green cards recently, too, to give us hope! Please feel free to update the thread with the date you file, and any other developments that may occur! Good luck... :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Same here for me. My son's however, has his full name at the bottom. Talk about consistency!

OP, I agree with featherB, you really should look into getting the greencard corrected.

Mags, Wes' is like your sons' card, apparently.

Surname, first name, and middle initial at the top.

Surname, first name, and middle name at the bottom.

I had never wondered about it before!

Yup, mine only had the middle initial (along with surname and first name, obviously) at the top, and then the misspelled middle name included at the bottom. No idea how it got to be like that, as the woman I spoke to at my Infopass assured me the correct spelling was in everything she could see when she looked up my file(s). When I posted about it a few weeks ago, a few people mentioned that they only had their middle initial, rather than their full middle name, at the bottom of the card - Dr_LHA being one of them, I remember. His theory was that the reason for only having his middle initial might be that his middle name is a long one. Mine's only four letters (and five, according to USCIS), so maybe he was onto something!

Oh yeah, OP, in case you haven't read this on the I-90 thread - I'm (reliably, I think) informed by Infopass Woman and a nice lady I spoke to at the CSC (yes, despite my scepticism on this point up 'til now, it seems you really can talk to them direct :o ), they don't send out NOAs for I-90s filed because of USCIS error, and the reason for that is that no fee = no check = no receipt (or receipt number) generated. So sending the green card back really does feel like sending it into a black hole, even more than is usual when sending stuff to USCIS!

Yes, you have to file I-90 to replace the card. Good luck

Thanks for all the replies/opinions, its really appreciated.

Is there a time frame within which the green card has to be returned? I've already had it for more than 2 weeks, will that be an issue if I try to return it now?

I will let you know what we decide to do.

If I do send it in, what is the process for getting the I-551 stamp in my passport? I now have a job as a government employee and can be asked to prove my status at any time and also need to travel so I am not comfortable sending back the green card without being able to get the I-551 stamp in my passport to both show proof of status and allow me to travel.
