Hi,

My wife received her GC in the mail a week ago. There was an email from USCIS that an approval notice was sent to us. Does anyone know if this is the "welcome to the US" letter or are we supposed to receive a different one, with a different content ? Just so we would know what and what not to expect. We hope this is all over, at least for now. Thanks!

Mark got sent afew emails ranging from " approval notice sent", " e-mail sent welcoming new resident" & " card production ordered". Seeing as she has her GC in hand- I think it would be fairly safe to assume that she is " welcomed"..... :D

edit-Dr LHA beat me to it!

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

pnrmbr,

You should receive, by post, a Notice Of Action printed on I-797 or I-797C paper of type Approval Notice.

No Yodrak, they won't. You don't get a paper approval notice for a Green Card, as has been discussed many times on here, you get the Green Card and the Welcome Letter.

"An Approval Notice was Sent" in this case is USCIS code for "We have mailed your Green Card".

Yes-My post up above should read " an approval notification E-MAIL was sent". No hard copy notice, just the card, a bunch of e-mails & and not much else, really.

Dr_LHA,

You're correct, the NOA is designated Welcome Notice, not Approval Notice.

Thanks for correcting me on the terminology, but I think that "Approval Notice" in the e-mail refers to the Welcome Notice. I think they simply took the usual approval e-mail text and neglected to customize it for the AOS NOA terminology.

I wonder why VJers call it a welcome "letter", when it's a NOA?

Maybe because they're in celebration mode by then. "NOA" sounds bureaucratic. "Letter" sounds more human, like the word "welcome." It's cathartic, crawling out from possibly years of paper and reclaiming one's life. And I'm kinda full of it -- haven't had my coffee yet this morning.

Your "approval notice" is actually the paper where the green card comes, it's where it says "hey, here's your GC, your approved". Sort of.

It was appointed as such in their (USCIS) emails, NOAs or I-797s are generic terms. Which one, it isn't a VJ thing?

Ditto. Even the adjudicating officer told us "Expect the welcome letter in the mail and another one with the GC", funny I just remembered.

What it's called is no big deal. I just find it interesting that it's called a letter but is not in letter format, it's written as a Notice of Action (NOA) on form I-797 or I-797C. At least my wife's was.
