i know this question has been asked many times "my k3 got approved whats happens next?" well, i have tried to find the answer and can't actually find a thread or site that explains what steps that i will need to take next.

i will appreciate any links and directions. feel free to say RTFM cause i deserve that. its just been an excited day but very long day at work. please help!

i am particularly looking for the names of of papers that i need to fill out.

it says you do not need to fill out i 864 until AOS. Is this so? then i am really confused about what i need to do now?

23. Standard IV processing is followed, including NCIC namechecks, police certificates, pertinent birth/marriage/divorce/death certificates, standard IV medical exam minus the vaccination requirement, and relationship bonafides, Ref E, 18-25. Unlike K1s and K2s, the IV system will not yet accept K3 as a visa class, and so the systems processing takes place exclusively in NIV. K3s must be issued in the country where the marriage took place, unless there is no IV or NIV issuing post in the country, see Ref E, 15-17. Applicants fill out two copies of the DS-156 NIV application form; they are not required to submit the new DS-157 form. Note that neither an I-864 or an I-134 is required; K3 applicants must present the I-864 when they adjust status in the United States with USCIS. Posts should not routinely require an I-134, except in those cases where the consular officer deems it necessary to overcome any public charge considerations that might arise from documents presented or the interview.

Congratulations.

Required paperwork for the K3 vary by country but here's a brief outline. Check the beneficiaries consulate to see if they list the required documentation so you can get everything ready.

1. You will soon get your approval notice from USCIS saying they're forwarding your case to the NVC.

* at this point, I would start on the paperwork.

Download and complete the I-134 (Affidavit of Support) You will need your 2006 tax return, W-2s and letter from employer, make duplicates and get it notarized.

Download and complete DS-230 (you can't save data on this form, so print it out correctly, make duplicates.

Will most likely need DS-156 (can fill it online and it makes a PDF for you, you can't modify this PDF, have to re-enter form data on the web to make a new PDF for each change) make duplicates.

Might need DS-157.

2. NVC will write you a letter soon with your case number and when they will send the case to the consulate.

* If the consulate permits advance medical exams, tell your husband/wife to get the medical, taking with him/her the case number from the above letter. He/she might need prior vaccination records.

Have your husband/wife gather all the required documents on their side if the consulate lets you know what they need. Birth Certificate/Police Records etc.

3. Your husband/wife will be sent a packet from the consulate which lists everything thats required. If you have everything ready as per above. send it right in.

4. Consulate will schedule a K3 visa interview for your husband/wife. If all goes well, he/she should have the visa soon after and then has 6 months in which to make an entry to the U.S.

Hello Rajc,

If you're applying for the K3 like us then I-864 is not required until after your wife enters the US. Our packet 3 from the consulate actually says that the I-134 or I-864 is acceptable but neither are required so long as we can prove that my wife won't become a public charge, but I know the official instructions say I-134. Yes, either form does need to be notarized. Next week call the NVC to get your case number (603-334-0700), K3's are not entered into the automated system so press 1 for english then 5 to speak with an operator. After that you can wait another week and email or call your embassy with your NVC case number to confirm the application has arrived. That's what we did. Our packet 3 only asks the following.

1. DS-156 (2 copies but do not sign)

2. DS-156K (1 copy)

3. DS-230 (1 copy)

4. Passport valid for at least 8 months after the visa is issued

5. Two 2" square passport pictures of my wife

6. Medical exam (you'll have to wait, they only gave us a choice of three doctors in our area)

7. Wife's birth certificate (official translated copy)

8. Marriage certificate

9. Police certificate

10. Court records, if convicted of a crime

11. Military records

12. Evidence of support (I-134 or other evidence)

for Vancouver, the DS-156K and the I-134 are only required for K-1. K-3 checklist does not ask for them.

is this a canadian thing?
