So how many of you out there have booked a wedding without yet being approved and how much time do you have left to get the K1?

I am so tempted to start booking things - but I know it is best to wait... ugh!

It is really risky to book anything without being approved because with USCIS you might have a few surprises popping up.

I would not recommend you to do any bookings. Maybe you can book some things after you know NVC sent out the package.

Eventhough it still depend on how long you have to wait for an interview appointment.

Good luck!

Never, ever set wedding dates anticipating an approved K-1, if you have hart set on a date, then perhaps K-3 after getting married makes more sense.

Some book things that allow flexible dates.

Don't do it. There are so many things that could hamper your petition....both your fault and the agencies you deal with along the way.

Over the last few years I have seen so many people have to change bookings, lose money, have their dream wedding spoilt all because they booked it before they had their visa..... There have been people who thought it safe to book the big day once they had a date for their interview.... only to have to try and change things at the last min because of a delay that they did not expect.....

Please dont book anything until you have your visa in hand.... it is just not worth the heartache and stress

I just want to be as efficient as possible. I will mostly likely have a big wedding which these things take forever to plan - or at least obtaining available space and really wanted to have it Oct/Nov of 07. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience in the this gamble and how it worked out for them.

There have been horror stories on this very subject.

I can attest that people from Jamaica going through the K-1 process are at least a month behind the very same process I went through just last year. You never know.

This is the most frustrating part of the process. We have planned a wedding party in Germany with my fiance's family for next summer and a "honeymoon" in Europe for after, knowing that the actual wedding won't take place until we get approved and he can come to the US. We may do a church (non-legal) wedding in Germany so that the family is satisfied. It probably sounds silly to some to plan it that way, but since everything else will be last minute, this is a way to still have a bit of pomp and circumstance without getting disappointed if the approval takes too long and he can't get to the US by next summer.

Now that we're at NVC and hopefully leaving NVC for the embassy soon, I'm just *starting* to look at wedding stuff again. Scoping things out VERY tentatively. There's one location that has a date available during a time that *might* work. I may take the gamble on the deposit because it isn't too much money in the grand scheme of things. But I won't go crazy booking up all the aspects because I can't afford to game that many deposits.

I think it depends on your personal financial situation, how much you know about the timelines for your SC and your embassy, and how well you think you can deal with having to scrap ALL your plans and move things to a later date.

If you can handle all that stress of not knowing, and it won't be an investment that will ruin you financially, then go for it. But know that no one - especially the Embassy - will feel pity or speed up the process because you've planked down a lot of cash on that dream restaurant, etc.

I'm with everyone on this, don't plan ahead! I too have read some people's misfortunate wedding plans getting thwarted by delays. I am just going to go with the flow and hopefully my wedding will be during a cooler month here in Arizona!

No offense, Sarah, but you are one I am actually referring to. By this time last year, Our case was already to the Jamaican embassy, Andre had the interview set up for June 6th, and he had his medical done. We filed at almost exactly the same time as you, only one year ago.

You just never know what they are going to find to delay you along the way.

Can I ask around what month's/dates you are considering?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am just hoping for a Fall wedding and it is hard not to at least LOOK at things!! :)

None taken my friend. Strange isn't, how we filed at the same time? lol My first snag is the RFE I received. Actually, the more time I have the better, I need to organize my apartment!

I would love to have a Fall wedding but Winter is equally nice = cooler in hot Arizona! With either season the decorations will be gorgeous!

I want to get married in NJ where all of my family is. Winter = flight cancelations! So I am trying to avoid that if possible. Oh well. I think I will just hirer a good planner - they always seem to make miracles happen on the TV shows :)

They should make the next reality show following couples like us through the process. I used to watch Airport in the UK and always loved the immirgration part.
