I crossed the border but was told no green card?!

I crossed the border on Apr 28, 2007 from the Vancouver International Airport. Very quiet day, not busy. Was shipped into secondary. The officer was very nice.. and said... ooh... we can't stop you now! (he could tell that i was denied before) He was kidding around.. not trying to be mean or anything.. So he looked through all the papers.. and told me.. that my visa is my temporary green card... because on the bottom.. there is a line that says: once it's endorsed, this will act as the temporary green card. I was surprised because a lot of you said that they usually tell you that your temporary green card will be mailed to you in 2-4 weeks ? So I asked him why.. and he repeated that phrase to me again!? He said, what they do is, they wait for a bunch of those documents (the ones in the brown envelope) and ship it to Texas in 1 go... he said i SHOULD be getting a new green card by December.. and if I dont, to call 'someone' and check to see what's going on...

Now my question to you guys is: Has anyone came across the above situation? Can someone help me?

thanks!

PS: All settled down in the states now.. back to work on Apr 30... so busy!

Did you enter on a K-3 or CR-1 visa? Your profile shows K-3, if that is true, sometimes the POE officer is thinking about the previous immigrant who was on an immigrant visa.

Your signature shows different, like you got the CR-1 visa, if this is the type you have then yes they stamp the visa with an I-551 stamp and the passport will server as a temporary green-card until the real one shows.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Ya, I entered as CR-1. I wasn't able to change the profile from K-3 to CR-1.. hahaa

Ok, good to know.. so I just wait right now then... but I'd be sure to follow up around the end of the year because the temporary green card is only good until next April!

Yep, says the same on my visa I received at my cr-1 interview!! The actual green card is your normal drives license size and usually takes around a month to arrive. Until u get the card, the passport visa will act as ur greencard. If after 30 days I belive, you have not yet received ur card, there is a 1800 # u can call. All appears normal.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

but they said they already sent the card to me on Februrary 20, 2007);

then i need to reapply the new one (even though it was not my fault!)

also when i checked the online website, it was shown the following message:

Application Type: OS155A, IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION

Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On February 20, 2007, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this OS155A IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

UPDATE:

I got a letter from the USCIS yesterday. It was my Welcome to America Letter. It says that they have received the package from the Vancouver POE and will take around 30 days to get a response from them. So I THINK I'm on the right track? I'll wait 30 days and see what happens.. Maybe they'll send me the temporary green card! I will continue to update if I hear anything from them. FYI I crossed on Apr 28 from Vancouver. I got the letter on May 14, so around 2+ weeks. Not bad! So the customs officer was not correct. They didn't hold on to it until they collect a bunch before they shipped it off?! (Unless I was the last of the bunch to be shipped off) Eitherway, i'm ok with it !

 First of all, congratulation to move to US.

I went across the POE in Toronto last July. Yes, you can use that small paper as temporary green card. And the real one will mail you in 2 -3 weeks as well as SSN card. Actually, I don't remember how long I got them. Around 3 weeks for green card. For my SSN, I didn't get it in 3 weeks. So I went to local immigration agency and applied again. After 2 weeks, I got it.
