(K3 visa question)Can I write Vancouver as the consulate office although I live in Toronto?

It is said that Montreal is too slow in processing K3 visa, taking several months after NOA2 of I-129. Is it okay I write Vancouver in I-130 although I live in Toronto now? I am thinking to move to Vancouver, but not decided yet and I don't have Vancouver address for now.

I am not sure how USCIS people make decision where to forward files to consulate, depends on what we write of the consulate or the region we live?

Thanks..... from a new member in Canada

April 28 2007 sent I-130 to NVC

May 22 2007 application transfered to CSC

July 11 2007 received NOA1, decide to apply CR1 instead of K3

Aug 14 2007 touched (not sure if it is touched before Aug 14)

Aug 21 2007 NOA2 in snail mail :)

Aug 27 2007 NVC received our case, number is assigned.

Sep 11 2007 DS3032 and AOS bill generated and mailed out

Sep 12 2007 mailed out DS3032 from Canada and hubby mailed AOS bill in US. DS3032 will arrive NVC 3 days slower than AOS bill.

Sep 18 2007 Auto msg says NVC received DS3032, didn't mention AOS bill yet.

Sep 24 2007 IV fee bill generated

Oct 8 received IV fee bill. Still waiting for 864form

Oct 13 received 864form letter. It was issued on Sep 24 at NVC. Mailed out 864 on Oct 15

NVC agent said they don't receive IV fee bill nor 864. Send out IV fee bill again end of Oct.

Nov 8 IV fee bill entered to system

Nov 12 DS230 generated. But agent still said 864 is not received yet.

Nov 20 resend out 864 again(Hubby forgot to write case number on documents last time)

Nov 27 NVC Auto message said received 864, now waiting for 230

Nov 29 230 delivered. Will arrive at NVC next day.

Dec 3 NVC received 230 and put into its system

Dec 13 NVC operator told us the case is in administrative process.

Dec 14 Called operator again, and magically the case is completed!

If it was me, i would. Whats the worst that can happen? They realize u reside in Ont. and change it to Mtl!! Worth a try!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

remember tho......no matter where you live in Canada the I-130 is a CR-1 and is always adjudicated in Montreal and its not likely the I-130 will even reach the NVC if you're doing K-3. If you're going to write Vancouver on any form make sure its the I-129F of the k-3 combo.

Personally, I wouldn't do it because I'd feel like I was being dishonest. :( If you live in Ontario your Consulate is not Vancouver. We put Ottawa, and they sent to Montreal.

My thought when I read this was --- why move to Vancouver just to get an earlier interview date? It only makes a month or two difference (and if I am wrong on the timeframe, please tell me :) ). Anyways, if you're filing the Cr-1, Montreal is your only option, no matter what.

For me, the few extra months apart (4-5 months I think) would have been torturous, so I transferred. :) I think if I didn't transfer I would probably not have gotten an interview until July or August. Ugh.

But for the OP, everyone is correct... the CR-1 is ONLY through Montreal.

Yep, cr-1 only for Mtl. But if you go the k3 route, one has to do whats best for you!!! Yes I have the luxary from yipping from the USA, drinking cheap Coors light (i'm on a diet, lol) but if one has done the research, and realizes Van is much faster, then go for it!! Maybe thats just the watered down Coors talking, lol Personally I wasnt in a hurry, back then (2004, walked both ways uphil to work......................) the visa process was much faster compared to now. Back then I was not in a hurry, I knew i was in canada (not a 3rd world country starving, living without such luxuries as online XXX) I wasn't phoning/emailing NVCC/Mtl daily, lol but thats me, just go with the flow(coors light flow, lol) I seriously the process was faster for everyone, (well maybe not cutinebergy--just kidding, she always puts a smile on my face) but the process isn't fair, so one has to take advantages of whats available, and what we do know at the CURRENT time is that Van is faster, why who knows (maybe the marijuana makes them work faster!!) As much as I kid around, I do hope everyone has a pleasant Visa journey.

Yeah, back a few years ago Montreal was MUCH faster. A friend of mine (who actually directed me to VJ!) came on a K1. If she had taken the first interview date given to her by Montreal (she asked for a date a few months after), it would have only taken her 4 months from filing to visa in hand.

But for the OP, everyone is correct... the CR-1 is ONLY through Montreal.

We were going to try to transfer after I read much of the information on this site and saw that it was possible. I was going to get a job in Vancouver specifically for that purpose - and would have got it (though I have wanted to go there for years anyway as I have many relatives there and have tried finding a job there for ages.)

But we ended up thinking that it wouldn't be completely honest, so we decided against it. Even though it was true that I was planning on living in Vancouver for awhile (! and based on posts on here I know that that is one of the only reasons they would have accepted) the real reason for transferring would NOT have been because I would be living there but rather because we wanted a quicker interview, and of course, we didn't think that would go over well with Montreal.

So we ended up sticking with Montreal. I understand wanting a quicker interview though and especially if you are already married!! Ugh!! It's going to take awhile longer for us maybe but the end result will be worth it!

I meant I was thinking to write Vancouver in I-129 form. I-130 doesn't require to fill consulate office anyway.

And I-129 doesn't say the consulate you write has to be the one where one reside.......

Your point is right.....if everyone goes for Van, then Mtl is faster. and if I-130 is approved before I-129, I will have to goto Mtl anyway

Yeah, I had my case transferred and I don't regret it for a minute. At first I thought maybe it would slow down Vancouver but when I went for my interview that day, there were only 3 K applicants including me. They slot 4 K applicants per day so they had an empty spot that day anyway. :) Not to mention the cost involved with us flying out there for the interview and hotel costs. I flew from Toronto to Van and he flew in from VA. Expensive, but worth every penny. :)
