What do you miss that you never thought you would?

I am feeling a little homesick at the moment, its just part of the adjustment I guess.

I LOVE it here and I am happy, but I found my self missing things from home I NEVER would of thought I would.

Like pub quiz's for example.

Or fish and chips...I HATE fish, I don't want to eat it, I just want to see it being sold!

I also, rather embarrassingly miss Neighbours also!

What do you miss that you never thought you would from back home?

I went through all manner of things that I missed over the past few years. I think the main one for me is the weather. I love grey gloomy days, I love days when you stay in cos it's pissing down, I love the wind, I love the spring air. I just don't get that here. Don't laugh.

But seriously, I always wanted tons of snow. Pfft now I know how annoying and COLD it is, and jsut grr.

Yeh, this is my 3rd full winter and I don't like it anymore. The first was a novelty and I'd always be out in it...the second was OK for the first 3 months, but then I got tired of it...the third I was ready for it to be over by 1st December. I don't know what I expected cos it's a ski resort area so it's gonna be nothing but snow for 5 months, right?

The longing for food items does diminish, and when you go home to stash up on your favourites you realise they maybe weren't quite so good for you after all.

I do miss the British sense of humour too. A lot. There is a large dose of irony deficiency over here.

I miss pavements too - isnt that weird?! The weather here is far more extreme than London so I do miss temperate grey days where it wasnt warm or cold. I missed chocolate for a while but then found that certain stores in the DC metro area sold them anyway so all was fine. I really really miss a good curry, and bread. Bread here is just pitiful - I miss going to Greggs on a Saturday morning and buying warm bread and a cheese and onion pastie. I have been looking for a sofa lately and I have to say I have been longing for the likes of DFS and John Lewis. I miss family and friends of course and just popping over to see them when I was bored or wanted a good chat. That said, my husband is my life so Im happiest wherever he is !!

I too miss the weather or more specifically four seasons of equal length with no extremes of heat or cold - seems like here in Ohio we get 5 months of summer (often too hot) 5 months of winter (often too cold) and blips on the weather map inbetween. I get fed up with people going on about oooh but it rains all the time in England, it doesnt annual rainfall here is double my UK home town

English humour irony and subtlety ........

On the food score I think eventually you can find most things you hanker for here if you scour the shelves long enough (this was my haul at the weekend in the back end of Ohio so there must be hope for all)

I miss neighbours too and i havent even left the UK yet ..LOL

I will also miss emmerdale, eastenders and corenation street, im 38 yaers old, how sad is that

Anyway im looking foward to the new experiance's, going to live in Orlando, Florida....

I found it funny how we all HATE the rain and waether when we're in it, but when we are faced with harsh, severe weather we welcome back the gloom and rain with open arms!

I'm the USC, but there's stuff I miss too: easy, cheap access to penguins and good curry for one. countdown in the afternoon (i'm SUCH an exciting person), though I liked the old Des better, i think.

also - better motion sensors on UK self-flushing toilets - which may be the dumbest thing to miss, but they're just plain better.

And bartenders who universally know what a "shandy" is without a 5 minute instruction and rationalization.

And Tesco.

From your description of how much you liked the pub quiz previously (rather have your fingernails pulled off one by one or summin like that....) are you sure you're not just missing David or your UK life rather than the quiz itself???
