Digna does not speak English and my Spanish is not that formal. Are the questions going to be that formal???? Is our language, Spanglish, going to be sufficient? Do we need a translator for the interview? We do not need one in our everyday living......We understand each other and love each other without the need for a translator. Are the questions going to be that difficult????

I would recommend bringing a translator for the interviewer's sake. It would be good for the interviewer to see that you and your spouse can communicate effectively with each other, however.

I am sure they will have a bilingual interviewer. Especially in California.

If you have a friend or aquaintance bring them. I certainly would not pay someone for this.

I have something unusual to ask about this. I'm in Puerto Rico, and am not very good at Spanish. The immigration officials here are prolly gonna be local, so does that mean I am supposed to speak spanish? 'Cus I am fluent in English. My husband can't help me?

Please pardon my ignorance. Do people from Brasil speak Spanish or Portegues??? If Spanish, you and your husband and the interviewers are going to have no problems.

When Digna crossed at the San Francisco airport, the Customs official did not speak Spanish and could not answer her questions and she could not answer his. He just waved her on thru. At the local office her in Sacramento, they are very lily white......I am sorry, I should not have said that......I did not see anybody speaking Spanish for my last 2 visits. At the biometrics appointment, I was there to translate. I sort of envy you and would have no problem if our interview was conducted in PR. I guess that I am going to have her brother there for the difficult questions with the complicated verb tenses......

Laura,

They must be able to speak English because on this kind of job they should be bilingual, but the question is if they are required to do the interview in Spanish because that's the local and mostly spoken language. Maybe you could call them and inquire if they can perform the interview in English because that's the language you and Luis communicate.

Good luck (F)
