Medical and Vaccine stuff for AOS

Hi, my fiancee is here in the states and we are getting ready to go through the whole AOS process. She completed the medical exam and everything in Spain but the vaccinations were not finished there. Now, in order to have gotten the K-1 to enter the United States in the first place, that medical exam had to have been passed and everything been fine, right? That means she doesn't need to do any of that again here in the states. But for the vaccinations, she would need to get that finished up here in the states. Am I understanding this all correctly?

Why is legal immigration so terribly difficult?

Yes, that's right. Take her current vaccination record to a local civil surgeon (USCIS publishes a list), have her vaccinations completed, then include a sealed copy of the I-693A Vaccination Supplement with your AOS packet.

Conditions Removed! Ten-year green card received 6/24/2009. No more USCIS for a very long time.

the civil surgeon will give your fiancee all the other required shots that were not given to her during her medical exam.

when i got the shots here in US, i didn't know that the USCIS has its list of civil surgeons designated to do the vaccinations. i got mine from a clinic who wasn't in their list. i was nervous to death that they wouldn't recognize it, but thankfully, it wasn't an issue. but i wouldn't recommend doing the same thing. i would go to a designated civil surgeon to be sure and not take any chances. :)

I'm in the same boat as my finacee needs the 3rd HPV vaccination shot to complete her vaccinations. She comes in 2 weeks, we get married in 4 weeks, and I start a new job in 5 weeks. I was thinking about waiting until I start my new job to add her to my insurance and then to take her to get the last HPV vaccination shot. However, I am not sure how long it takes with the new job before we are eligible for the insurance to kick in (likely a question for the HR department at my new job).

Also, I am wondering if it is expensive or cheap to go to the USCIS civil surgeon with or without insurance. Maybe this would be a question for the doctor, but does anyone have any ideas?

I also found out that it costs $160 for the third shot and $120 for the USCIS-approved doctor to fill out the I-693A and sign it. This applies only to one USCIS-approved doctor we found who works neabry to us.

You can complete the vaccinations anywhere and take that record to the civil surgeon. My husband was missing only one, so we went to the local health clinic- much cheaper than the price quoted by the civil surgeon.

Thank you for the advice. I talked again to my fiancee and found out that the HPV vaccination apparently is not mandatory for the AOS so she can take the 3rd shot later.

I also read other posts on this site and found that the Dr below only charges between $10-20. That would save us $100 easily. My fiancee would still need to go and get her 3rd shot when it's the right time.

I did reread the I-693 instructions and found the following verbage "By law, the required vaccines include:.... human papillmavirus..."

I guess I'll need to call the doctor's office to see if the 3rd shot needs to be taken before we send in the AOS package.

  • 3 months later...

I got my NOA2 about 3 weeks ago. My fiance did not get his paperwork yet from the Embassy in Rio, but we decided to go ahead and take care some of the things we could. so we realized that he will need 3 times the Hepatitis B vaccination with a time of 4 months between the first to the last one.

I beleive he will have his interview before the last one. So what could we do?? Could he take the last one once he is here in USA?

Please, let me know. I would appreciate any help.

Take care,

Andrea

He doesn't need to have all the shots before the interview- he just needs to have proof that he has the others in the series, but hasn't had the last one cause its scheduled after the interview. Basically, the doctor can't give it to him before the appropriate time, so it has to wait. If the interview is Tuesday and his shot is scheduled for Thursday, there is no way they can make him get it before then. The following is from the USCIS Form i-693

HHS has determined that a vaccine is "not medically appropriate" if : (a) the vaccine is not recommended for your specific age group; there is a medical reason why it would not be safe to have the vaccine (for example, allergies to eggs and yeast, pregnancy, hypersensitivity to prior vaccines, or other medical reasons); or © you are unable to complete the entire series of a required vaccine within a reasonable amount of time.

There is also a column for the civil surgeon to indicate "Insufficient Time Interval". Hope this helps.

HPV is required for women under 26 years of age. You DON'T have to finish a series. You only need to start it to be able to apply for AOS. Really, you don't have to finish a vaccine. Nobody will ever check if she got all the shots.

From CIS website:

Q: Does USCIS require that all shots in each vaccine series be completed before applying for adjustment of status?

No. The applicant must have received all the required age-appropriate vaccines that could be given at the time of the medical exam. If the applicant has started the vaccination series, but is not able to complete all the required shots because, at the time of the medical exam, the minimum time interval between shots has not passed, the applicant may still apply for adjustment of status. A waiver is available in cases where, due to required time intervals, it was impossible for the applicant to receive all shots in the series before submitting the application for adjustment of status.

For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine requires that applicant receive two doses of vaccine, six months apart. If the applicant receives the first dose in January, he or she does not have to wait until July, when the second dose would be given, to submit the adjustment of status application. However, the applicant must have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, if appropriate, before applying for adjustment of status.

so how do you know if you need to have vaccinations done?

My wife (fiancee at the time) had her medical examinations and got her shot records. But they made no mention of any shots that needed to be done. Besides, the USCIS agent at the port of entry took all the paper with them.

so...

#1 how do you know if you need to have any shots

#2 is it naive to think that all that paper work will be with the original packet?

# the notice of action that they send out....is it just a basic script that they send out or do I really need to furnish the "required" items because they don't have it anymore

My Timeline:

2/27/2007 sent I-129f

5/??/2007 USCIS needed additional info

7/23/2007 I-129f approved

8/3/2007 NVC approves application

8/27/2007 NVC sends approval notice to Seoul embassy

9/6/2007 Seoul embassy finally receives application/filed for interview

9/21/2007 worried about interview

10/13/2007 K-1 approved.

10/20/2007 Arrived in Ameriva

10/29/2007 Filed for marriage certificate

11/24/2007 Filed for AOS I-485 and AP

12/18/2007 Received RFE (overpaid, had to resend check)

1/24/2008 USCIS resumed application process/biometrics appt received

2/04/2008 Biometrics appt

4/??/2008 AP approved and received

9/??/2008 AOS interview schedule received

10/22/2008 AOS interview

I'm a little curious, confused actually. My fiance' is arriving in about a week, We think we have everything covered until I started looking into immunization card requirments to enter the US. Is there any other immunization requirement needed for her after having the medical exam, and recieving her visa? Are immunization records required to enter the US at her POE? or is she covered by the fiance' visa until we file for AOS?
