Well after waiting 9 months my interview was finally set for January 11th, then 2 days before Christmas I get an email saying my interview has been cancelled :crying: Do they normally send out a formal letter saying it has been cancelled or is the email all I get?

Also, has anyone else had any experience with Charleston, SC cancelling their acppointment and if so, how long did it take them to reschedule?

If you are fairly close to the USCIS office you may want to show up as if you did not get notice of the cancellation, I have read posts of two possible problems with so called cancellations.

The system says canceled, but someone at the local office is not informed, the petitioners do not show, and then run into problems when the officer at the office logs them as missing the appointment, and a few weeks later the petitioners get nasty letter in the mail about deportation proceedings. (BAD OUTCOME)

See: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...c=22057&hl=

Or the petitioners do go to the office and even though the interview was canceled, the officer fits them in and interviews them anyway. (GOOD OUTCOME)

Thanks Yu and Dan. I live really close to the office so I'll just turn up and the worst they can do is send me away. I'll just pretend I never got notice of the cancellation. The last thing I need is a deportation notice!! Thanks for the advice.

Good idea, yep worse they can do as tell you that it was canceled, and send you on your way, but they also may interview you anyway.

Can't hurt.

Good luck.

We experienced both bogus cancellations and a real one. We got an official letter for the real one. It actually arrived on the same day as the interview letter.

Several months before the interview was rescheduled (about a year later), we got a series of emails saying that the interview scheduled in this case had been cancelled. There were about eight of these in all arriving on two different occassions with dates only several seconds apart. We were clueless since we didn't know anything about a scheduled interview. We made an Infopass appointment and they were just as clueless.

I would do what I think somebody else here said - just show up for the interview and ignore the emails unless you get a confirmation letter. I think somebody else posted here that they did that and got the interview and green card.

Has the time for your interview passed??? If so you might be

receiving a denial letter insetead of a reschedule appt letter. At least for me and WARREN613 it has happened. We ended up having to file a Motion To Reconsider [MTR]. IF the interview date hasn't passed I would STRONGLY advise to go ahead to the interview and take along the notice of cancellation e-mail and the hardcopy. We received the e-mail and our atty received the hardcopy. The atty was as surprised as we were.

read here and AOS poll

GOOD LUCK!! and if still possible.......

GO TO THE INTERVIEW ANYWAY!

thanks for the advice. Yes, we actually showed up with cancellation in hand and showed it to them and said look we're here and now give us a notice saying we showed up blah blah. They said well, we can't do anything, go back and wait. They didn't even have our file.

We haven't heard anything yet and as you know we're in a crappy situation as we've been waiting for an EAD as well for over a year. I think they just don't like us :( no response to anything!

Yep, you should get a snail mail cancellation. An email by itself is nothing. A snail mail cancellation is something, but even then some people choose to go anyway.

are you saying emails aren't enough to file a motion to reconsider (if they erroneously deny due to failure to show)?

i received 2 email cancellations. i DID wind up going to the 2nd cancelled interview since it wasnt clear if it was cancelled or not. it wasn't mentioned at the interview.

Emails are basically as good as your word. A person with pretty basic technical skills can easily fake an email. Now, USCIS employees may not know it, so one might just get lucky with a printout.
