I just came into the US yesterday with my K-1 fiance. When we arrived in LA the officer opened our sealed package from the Colombian embassy. The top form in the package had a red "approved" stamp on it. The officer said congratulations your green card was already approved and you should be receiving it within a couple of weeks in the mail?? How can this be? I thought we had to do this whole AOS process for her to get her green card? I would assume we still have to do it, but has this happened to anyone else? I am really confused, can anyone shed any light on this for me?

I have never heard of anything like this... a fiance can't petition for a green card. Did you see the paper? As you may have noticed, officials can be as misinformed as the 1-800 line.

That's odd, you aren't even married yet.

I think it musta been an error.

Unless they are so desparate to improve service times that this is their new process (seems highly unlikely).

Sounds like the IO had no idea what he was talking about . . . .

Sounds like the POE officer was confused, perhaps the previous person he delt with was entering on a CR-1 or other type of immigrant visa, and still had that on their mind.

The red approved stamp I suspect was just stating that your K-1 visa was approved at the consulate, nothing more.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

The IO was not paying attention to what he was doing obviously. Probably the end of his shift and you were the last people he was not paying attention to for the day.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Whatever you do... do not just go by what this POE officer said.. you could find yourselves in hot hot water later!

Just continue with your wedding then AOS, if you have any questions prior to filing for AOS, you can make a infopass appointment and speak to a USCIS officer first, but seriously just go ahead get married and file AOS.

Thanks everyone... I agree with what you all are saying. One more thing I forgot to mention, he did tell me to write down an 8 digit number he said was my finace green card number. Any one have any idea where to search for that number at or really what tht number is?

No such thing as a "fiance green card" but I sure want to know what that number is that he gave you . . .

I think he made a huge mistake in wording as it's virtually impossible for you to be given a green card coming into US on a K1. I believe the 8 digit number is the A# and you should proceed by book in getting married in 90 days and filing for AOS whenever you're ready.

I just looked at my wife's greencard - it has a 9 digit number (and it has an A at the beginning and is formatted like this A# 999-999-999.) So definitely the 8 digit number is not a grrencard number. Good Luck
