How long before I can work

I will be arriving in the US on a fiance visa next year and will be getting married on the 26th May.

I know that I can apply for employment authorisation when I apply for my adjustment of status but this can take 45-90 days. Does this mean I cannot start looking for work until I have received this?

I am getting married in Lincoln, NE but will be living in Chicago if this makes any difference.

Employers look for EAD card or EAD stamp in passport, along with SS card. The only POE that still stamps the passport with temp 90 day EAD is JFK New York, though they may discontinue that practice at any time.

The best course of action is get SS card, and marry soon as possible then file for EAD and AOS.

My understanding is that it is acceptable to look for a job, but I know it can be difficult to do when you don't know when you'll be work authorized, and therefore can't really say when you will be able to start.

Nothing more useful to add than what's already been said, but... could you fill in your timeline? It's helpful to other VJ-ers and helps the accuracy of the stats too. Also, you've put in your profile that you've applied for a K3 visa, not a K1!
