My dad (cosponsor) brought me his 2005 tax return. It was a gigantic folder with like 100 pages and no summary that I could tell.

Am I supposed to send the whole thing down to Brazil? Is there some summary that I'm missing?

This will be my first year filing so I'm not sure.

Why not just contact the IRS and request the transcript... it can be done by calling the automated number

Alex+R,

In which case start photocopying. If a tax return is submitted it needs to be the complete return as sent to the IRS including all forms, schedules, exhibits, and attachments.

Perhaps your father's folder contains his backup documents as well as the tax return? Such material does not need to be submitted.

Well, I have what I have, but I'd like to send it off soon rather than wait for the IRS.

Wellp, all right. I guess I'll have a date with Kinko's later... I guess I imagined these things fitting in an envelope...

Tax transcripts take 5 to 10 days, have the info they need, and are free. If there is an IRS office near by, you can even walk in and walk out with the transcripts. A transcript is about 3 pages per year.

I am positive that there is an IRS office in St Paul.
