Do you take your shoes off

Was going to do your poll but the answers dont fit... why would I take my shoes off if I was in my own house?? At home I take them off when I go to bed or if they are wet or muddy or caked in snow...

I always do. Just the way I was taught as a child.

Down here noone does, it drives me nuts. Whats the point in cleaning the floors when they all come in with dirty shoes on.

Can't vote, because none of the answers to #2 or #3 are acceptable. The poll shows a bias, and that bias limited the possible answers to the poll.

I do not take my shoes off. If someone came over to my house and took their shoes off, I would probably kick them right back out the door. The last thing I want is someone's smelly feet tracking about in my house. Especially if they have athlete's foot or some such thing. I was raised to consider such things to be the most rude thing you could do. Would you go to someone's house and take your pants off? How about your shirt? Why not go the whole measure and take your shirt, pants, and shoes off and sit in front of their TV in your boxers, belching and farting, drinking beer and watching football?

People who take their shoes off in houses or in public disgust me.

There's a reason businesses in the US have signs that say "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service". It's gross.

Interesting how people think different. I would prefer your socks in my house than your shoes that walked through god knows what outside.

Shoes are filthy and disgusting. I always take my shoes off at home. So do my kids. So does everyone I knew until I moved here.

When I'm in my own house, my shoes come off the minute I'm in the door. If I am at someone's house I keep them on. I think it's rude to take your shoes off in someone else's home.

Whereas many Americans feel that feet are filthy. lol. Personally, I'd rather have someone track in dog ####### on their shoes (and Americans DO have door mats and boot scrubbers, ya know) than spread foot fungus all over my house, or let their stinky feet breathe.

I think it has something to do with respect for the home of another, too. Taking ones shoes off can be taken as a sign of familiarity. Sometimes too much familiarity. Invading ones house and making yourself at home, and all that.

If people remove their shoes all the time, their feet will get almost as filthy as the shoes were, so where is the benefit? I don't see the difference, germ-wise. I just know I'd be offended if someone kicked their shoes off when they entered my house.

I knew some cultures believe otherwise, but I never expected that Canadians did. Weird.

In my own house, yes.... I take my shoes off shortly after coming inside. Unless I'm working on the house, then I leave them on, since dropping drills on your feet kinda hurts.

I'm aware of that. I like to visit open houses in my area and I've noticed most homeowners ask for visitors to take their shoes off. Granted, this is central NJ and many homeowners are foreign-born, but even many seemingly "American" homeowners ask for the shoes to come off. I mentioned this to a cousin who lives in the Raleigh area, and he said that's unheard of in those parts.

I don't see why. The inside of ones home is usually cleaner than the outside of ones home. No dirt and bird poop inside

Well, in the UK people who come into your home ask if you want them to take their shoes off. If it is raining outside and you enter a home that has a nice beige or pale coloured carpet I KNOW I'd have a coronary if someone traipsed muddy/wet footprints over it.

Just good manners. People don't tend to do it automatically, but they do ask. Most of the time. I always say "No, it's all right."...as long as it isn't raining outside of course.

But...if someone entered my home, didn't ask AND it wasn't raining, I'd be fine about it.

Rain+Mags+Carpet=bad.

I would never ask anyone to remove their shoes but would hope they are considerate enough to if they have muddy boots/shoes...although I have made it a rule with my son's friends that they always remove their shoes cos I have beige carpets upstairs and they are mucky little buggers.

Yep, no shoes allowed upstairs (beige carpet!). All my son's friends do it automatically now...

Here in the south most do not, I did not, but my wife(Canadian) insisted I learn to that. SO I learned, it is not s big, it was just a change.
