African Amercian Friends Only!!!

That was the title of a post I just came across on craigslist. A woman new to the area, looking for new friends. But only wanting them if they are african american.

Now I dont know what to think about this. Since moving to the states I am starting to see more and more of this one sided kind of attitude. If I had made a posting asking for 'White Friends Only!' (which I would'nt) Im sure Id get a lot of abuse. Maybe she will as well, I dont know. It just seems like it would be deemed very racist to post 'white people only', but maybe not as much so because she wants african american friends only. But then I think, well if she does just want african american friends, that is her choice and right. I just find it a little sad.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts? People should be free to befriend people of their own choosing. If she wants to limit her friends to people of a certain race, that's her choice.

Note that I am not following that up by the usual "who are we to judge?" nonsense... I judged her the moment I read your post. She's probably not the kinda person I (or you) want to be friends with anyway.

Sometimes I think my husband puts up post for "Moroccan friends only" because it seams like he never has any friends that aren't moroccan.

I think that it's sad she would put that! I would feel left out! I wonder what she has against everyone else? What if the "african american" doesn't really come from Africa? Then what is she going to do? You should put a "white friends" only post and see how that goes!
