No More Interim EAD's?

I had an infopass appointment this morning in Newark, NJ, and while there, saw a notice "Effective September 1, 2006, Work Authorization Cards will no longer be issued by District Office (not sure if this was for Newark or all DO's). Anybody from other areas seen similar postings?

I f***ing hope not. If I don't get my EAD before the end of this month, I'm basically screwed, and I'm relying on the iEAD as my backup plan.

Sounds likely, however I have heard rumblings that more DOs are not giving out Interim EADs on the spot now.

Thanks, Yodrak. It seems Newark is now one of those no longer offering interim EAD's.

Yodrak, when I got up to the first window, I asked the woman (after dealing with my issues). She was tired-looking and brusque with her answers. Anyway, she said cards/interviews were now being issued/arranged so quickly, it was not necessary. I wanted to speak to her some more on her statement, but had to rush on to deal with my matter at hand. I would be interested to know if someone has a recent experience to share.

July 28, 2006 USCIS announced that local district office production of Employment Authorisation Cards (Form I-688B) will be discontinued in favour of the Employment Authorization Document (Form I-765) produced at one central location due to increased security features and verification requirements.

Some local USCIS offices have continued to accept employment authorisation applications but after September 1, 2006, such local offices will no longer directly process those cases but will forward them for service center processing.

The discontinuation of locally produced form I-688s will not prevent InfoPass scheduled appointment for an interim employment document when USCIS has not adjudicated the original I-765 within 90 days.

Hi there. I'm curious..how many people have you heard of that are not receiving interim EADs? My husband has the same problem and we've been waiting for over 8 months. Our lawyer says this is odd and that we're likely to wait for a year with no interim EAD.

I'm trying to see if there is anyone else who has faced the same problem.

If anyone has any news, stories, etc please share.
