Stingray kills 'Crocodile Hunter'

SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Steve Irwin, the Australian TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.

Steve Irwin, I always thought that guy was a bit crazy. Well its too bad he was funny.

Steve Irwin, I always thought that guy was a bit crazy. Well its too bad he was funny.

Wow. Even before that baby incident that guy was certifiable. Pulling the tale of a black mamba while wearing safari shorts always struck me to be rather an un-necessary risk.

David Attenborough got close enough to nature without going in for that sort of sensationalism.

Might say he was a casualty of his own fame.

wow i'm in shock. when i first started reading this post i thought it wasnt true, maybe just a rumor so i went to look it up and its right there in today's headlines. so sad!

It's about time!

In Australia we are taught to respect the wildlife and not interfere with them. Stingrays do not attack. They are very shy creatures that will only defend themselves if put into a place where there is no way out. The same applies to most of Australia's wildlife.

True to a point- interference is not necessarily a good thing. However, when looking at the pro's and con's of his work, Steve pumped A LOT of money into conservation efforts- the money he earnt went towards protecting the creatures he loved.

A whole bunch of people interfere- indirectly every single one of us- and do MUCH more harm than this guy ever did.

Never particularly liked the guy and thought he was a sensationalist and OTT but I would not wish that on any one. At the end of the day, he did it the way he thought was best and as someone said with the risks he took it could only have been a matter of time.

Wow. Ok, I too did not believe it. I'm still having a hard time believing it. When I read about stuff like that, or see things like that on the news it sets me back a bit. I have to stop and think for a while.
