Assistant to my boss

Ok, making a long story short:

I was at work the other day, things were going good as usual, and all of a sudden my boss's assistant (a bearded woman who carries her infant on her hip everywhere she goes acting as if shes Gods gift to earth) comes into my office and tells me " Tara, i need you to move ram space from the c drive to the network drive" i looked at her and asked her if she was serious. she replied yes. I informed her that cant be done. I could purchase more ram if she wanted, but to move space from the c drive to the y drive was impossible.

Reminding her that there was plenty of space on the network drive btw, after having built an FTP site, and had everything backed up on cd's in a filing system. Also reminding her everyone in the office BUT her was more than happy about this.

She again tells me she wants me to do what she asks. I had 2 choices, i could have argued it like i did, or sat there and looked stupid pretending to do what she asked, only to report to her later that again it couldnt be done and argue bout it at that time.

Ofcorse I argued it. Now, she is basically nobody, she takes notes, and answers the phone for our boss, but this day she seemed to think she was computer smart, when every other day im called into her office to either print something, or search a file on her pc because she cant find it and the whole time it was on her desktop.

Anywho, in conclusion, because i told her what she wanted me to do could not be done, she told me to pack up my desk and leave, that if i didnt know how to do my job, i wasnt to work there anymore.

Now, since then I have attempted to get ahold of my boss, but she makes sure this isnt possible, if i leave a voice messege, janelle listens to it before my boss does, emails are the same. And my boss is IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of, and shes never in the office. I was told by a coworker, that bearded woman actually told my boss i QUIT!

Ok it felt good to get that off my chest.

Now im looking for another job, and im still talking with the Board of Labor over this #######. Is there anything else i can do? other than flattening her tires, or holding her down and shaving her hairy chin??

your mistake was leaving. as you don't work for her, she can't tell you that you are to pack up and leave. however, since you did and you left, the powers that be could consider it to be you abandoning your job. even if you get ahold of your boss, i don't think you'd like to come back there unless the bearded lady finds another circus to work in.

There is no way in he11 id go back there anyway. And actually she does have the power to fire IF she sees it fit. I dont think it was a fit reason, but for some reason, she didnt like me and found a reason to get rid of me. My husband says she was jealous of my smooth unhairy skin

I dont know what shes gonna do until they find a new IT Director, i mean, she cant even turn on her pc without assistance!

I know this is a bit after the fact but since she obviously hasn't a clue as to the technical aspects of what she's trying to tell you, if you find yourself in a similar situation, I think it's best to filter what they are REALLY asking to be done then rephrase what they've just asked back to them. They will either give you an affirmation or then rephrase what they asked for. Effective communication is key - especially when your expertise means that you know the technical aspects of things that people you will work for may not know.

I work in the video game industry and there is a technological disconnect between the artists and programmers. Programmers tend not to understand too much of the art aspect either. So we really have to extract what is being asked of us and then find a way to understand them in their terms.

I know what your saying. I did ask her in 3 different EASY ways for what she was asking me to do. she claimed very straight that i CAN move ram from the c drive to the network drive, and no matter how i put it to make sence in a way maybe like you said she was trying to say something else, she kept with the same thing. it frustrates me, even NOW im still frustrated! I even told her we could BUY more ram but not move it, and she sd "no, we dont want to buy more, we want you to MAKE more".
