Hi,

Ive been pondering about the 90 day work authorisation stamp that can be issued at some airports upon arrival, does anyone know of a list of airports who do this ? is it something to ask about at the interview ? how does it work ? ive searched but cant find what im looking for so im hoping someone will know : )

Thankyou

JFK used to do it but it seems these days no one does it anymore

JFK seems to be one of very few that does, Kitkat!

I have seen mention of LAX on the boards somewhere, but the only one that routinely does (as far as I can tell) is JFK.

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

JFK does do it! My husband and i entered in the spring and they stamped his passport without us ever mentioning it. But as I have read on other peoples experiences, it does seem to be just plan luck! and JFK is the only airport that still issues it.

I swear I read a post in the past few weeks of someone entering at JFK and not getting it. . . at least I think I did.

There are several, JFK being the most recognized.

Also keep in mind it is only valid for 90 days then you have to stop work and wait for the 1 year EAD that you will file for along with your AOS...

Kezzie

This is a very important point!! In my opinion its not even worth it. You have a job for a few months and then you have quit just to wait for another few months. This situation might not look good to an employer. Of course its your decision but sometimes I just have to open my big mouth!!! ;):)

If the fiance helps bring money in for the AOS process then it is worth it for those that dont have the money. I think it is work it if one gets a job within the first couple of weeks.

I know with my spouse it was a good thing, it got him out of the house and he felt useful (because he could now contribute to the household).

It's also worth getting the stamp if you intend to marry and file the day after entry, as doing that minimises any potential lag time between the end of the (a6) category EAD (the stamp) and the arrival of the (c9) EAD.

If one is inclined towards temping or short-contract labour, it would seem worthwhile to me.

I think an employer is going to be pleased to see that you have made some effort to work if you are able, rather than questioning why you stopped. It's a great way to get a reference, too.

I like that idea. So Can I still work with temp EAD while I file for AOS and EAD?

Wow, I will enter through JFK. What do I have to ask for if they do not automatically give me the stamp. I would like to work again for my German company but I do no that it is not legal if I have not work permit in the US. Since I live in the US I have to follow their rules, even though I would work for an German company. Sometimes it is just too difficult to understand.

Thank you in advance.

Ilka,

Before you leave the desk in the immigrant inspection room check the 'departure' section of the I-94 stapled into your passport for an ink stamp that has the words 'employment authorized' or something similar on it. If you don't see it, or are not sure about what you see, ask.
