Change of Address During AOS?

My experience thus far: When my husband moved to the US in November 2005, I was renting a room in Orange County, CA as a recent college grad looking for full time career work. Due to the unstable nature of the situation, we kept my parent's address in San Diego as a "permanent" address for all of our form filing.

We filed AOS in early Dec, and in late Jan, we moved into our very own apartment in Orange County. So, now that we have stable living situation, we filled out AR-11's and I-865's and sent them to the addresses on the form and the Lee's Summitt Office (the last place I knew our case was) AND called the wonderful mis-information line and changed our address on the phone. The NEXT DAY, we received an letter from a district office in San Diego with an interview date.

I then sent more copies of the AR-11 and I-865 to the address for the district office that was on the letter. The next week, we received a letter from Lee's Summitt (at my parent's address, of course.... ugh... :ranting: ) informing us that our previously scheduled interview was canceled due to "unforseen circumstances" and that we should shortly receive further instructions on recheduling.

I figured it had to do with the change of address, though what puzzles me is the fact that it went to the OLD addres, and shortly after receiving that letter, the forms I mailed to the San Diego DO were returned to sender... And we haven't heard anything since the cancellation of our interview. So, we don't know if the Santa Ana DO got our case, or what's going on.....

So, for my question, if you've had one, what was your change of address during AOS experience? Did it go smoothly (though, knowing USCIS, I doubt it... :bonk: )? Any insight into my situation?

Thanks in advance!

Filed: AOS (pnd) Country: Thailand
Timeline

I moved to another city in MI since November and sent AR-11 form with full details of the old and new address to them (it was indicated in the form where to send it) by mail 10 days later but until now I did not receive any confirmation from them so I made a phone call to the Customer service and asked them to check if my record has beem updated. I got the answer was "nothing changed yet" so I took that chance to update and they did for me also gave me the confirmation number for reference. You can try like I did and no need to send them any form but only call them.

By the way, I also inform the post office about our new address so if any mails comes to our old address under our family name it will be automatically sent to our new address so both way can help us to receive all mails sent to both addresses.

Hope it can help.

when you called mis-info line for address changed, and they did for you also gave you the confirmation number for reference.

Getting confirmation is good idea, but what is useful in future?

They did not give us a confirmation number when we called, but we did receive a letter at our new address on plain white paper (not an official I-797 looking one) that had all of our main info (case number, my husbands name and A#) saying that they received a call for a service request, and the following:

"Recently, you called us to update your address. we have updated your address in our systems and on your application or petition. Thank you for notifying us of your change of address. If you change your address again in the future , please contact customer service at the number provided below."

We received this letter BEFORE receiving the cancellation of the interview at the OTHER address. And then, just to follow up, we called the info line again this week just to double check that everything had been processed. They told us all was good, and that even though there were no updates our case should be being transferred to our new local office and we should be hearing from them soon as we had already been issued an interview from the previous office meaning all preliminary processing was complete. But, still, no word.... And we wait. He hasn't even done biometrics yet and his I-94 expired last week. So, we are currently fully at the mercy of USCIS, waiting for them to get their butts in gear....
