WARNING - UPDATE TO DS-230 FORM

Guys,

If, like me, you are overly excited and have pre-filled out most of the forms, please note that DS-230 HAS CHANGED! Although I cannot quickly identify what has changed it has a new version number at the bottom. The previous version which I downloaded and saved on my computer was 05-2009 and the new form is 02-2010. I have just wasted 30 mins filling out the wrong one but and am keen to stop others making the same mistake, and potentially those of you turning up to interview with an older version.

Although both versions say the are valid to 02/29/2012 it also clearly says at the bottom that all previous versions are obsolete. Better safe than sorry!

Dang!! I hope it doesnt cause any delay for us....the only difference I see is the part II does not have the shaded box because it takes what you type from up top to the bottom (boxes 36-38)...maybe to make sure there is no typos??? I'm waiting on the one that I sent to be received by my e-mail to see if it is any different.

Hmmm I"ll have to have a look. Like others, I completed and signed these forms ahead of time and left them with my wife. We've also decided to do EP when the time comes, hopefully really soon. I'll have to ask her about which version because I'm thinking we did have the latest versions. I only filled them out a few weeks ago.

Hmm looking at it the OMB numbers are the same (OMB APPROVAL NO. 1405-0015)...I think that is what counts. I think it just changed the way it was filled in...you fill in the top and it automatically fills in the blocks 36-38. Dont know for sure....guess I will be able to tell you guys in a couple of days to a week when they get done reviewing ours. As long as they arent expired, i dont think it matters....of course it is always good to download the latest and greatest form from their site though. I'm not going to sweat it right now.

Wait, where did you find that one...i went to the DOS site and found the same version I got now (date wise 5/2009) http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0230.pdf

I see now...the payment portal sends you to that one. Hmmm but when I did the search on the site I still found the old one. i'm sure that will change shortly....I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping it wont affect our case there.

Are any of you guys with NVC case numbers able to call or email them to inquire further? I'm not sure if I can email them given that my file is still with DHS and awaiting NOA2. Do they have a general mailbox or is all correspondence with NVC related to having a file/case there?

Guys, as Scott and Mhay have pointed out, there are still other official government websites that have DS-230 (05-2009) posted on them, so I think you would have an overwhelming argument if you have recently submitted the old form. The revised version is via the link on the London consular website, and the other websites will probably roll out the new version shortly, so it would probably be safest to use the new one if you haven't yet submitted it or will be taking Part II to the interview shortly.
