A MAN in a wheelchair has been punched in the face, stomped on and hit on the head with metal bars at a train station in Sydney's west.

The 35-year-old Canadian national was trying to leave Mt Druitt station when two males began verbally intimidating him last night, police say.

As he entered the lift, one of the attackers allegedly punched him in the face, causing him to fall onto the ground.

The pair then stomped on his body, tried to take his chair and belongings, and struck his head with metal bars.

They allegedly returned a number of times to attack the man again with the bars, but were eventually arrested by police after a foot chase.

The victim's girlfriend, Kristin Sharrock, appealed for him to come forward, The Australian reports.

Ms Sharrock, from Sydney's northern beaches, said her boyfriend was coming home from a friend's gig at Rooty Hill RSL when the attack occurred.

``It's disgusting. I can't believe somebody would want to attack anybody, let alone someone in a wheelchair,'' Ms Sharrock said. ``It was a callous, horrendous attack.''

A 17-year-old boy is currently assisting with inquiries at Mt Druitt police station.

A search is under way for a second male, described as being of Pacific Islander appearance and aged in his teens.

The victim has been taken to Nepean Hospital in a serious condition and will require surgery for severe cuts to his head and a depressed fracture to his skull.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Callous incidents like these is why I would never get rid of the death penalty.

Spook, if you are somehow trying to illustrate that Australia's crime rate is on par with the US, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Including going to Australia and committing a few thousand murders and violent attacks yourself.

Ruthless bogans.

I am sure less government will fix this.. ;)

I am merely illustrating that this stuff happens everywhere. Only you preach that it doesn't happen in Australia, just here.

Too bad I never ever actually said what you claim I have said. What I did say in the past is that crime, like the murder rate, is significantly higher here than that of most other first world countries. With your usual response to that either being 1. An off the bat insult 2. A 'get out!' comment (yeah that really proved me wrong ), followed by a 'why are you here' question 3. The use of isolated incidents to somehow prove that crime is on par in other countries, particularly Australia, because of an article. Of course you do loathe graphs, charts and international rankings from reputable sources used to illustrate a point and deem them stupid and laughable.

I only posted the article, I don't make up the news. You always get defensive and turn it into an Australia is better than US contest. You have said multiple time that things like this don't happen in the promised land. I say that it happens just about everywhere.

First off, you post these articles for the sole purpose of being a smart azz. Hence, 99.9% of such articles being about Australia; which is actually quite interesting considering you claim the country is insignificant. In particular, being that the article was sourced from an Australian news site. Not as if you stumbled on it from yahoo or MSN.

Show me once where I said crime does not occur in AUS..

Posting this is being a smart aѕѕ? How do you figure that? I don't post many articles about Australia, certainly not on a daily basis and I don't even comment on the article, you do.

Excluding articles about the US, the majority of your threads regarding news abroad are about Australia. Strange coincidence that one hey. What did you say again the other day about someone being a loser and trying to convince others.. ;)

Strange that all of your negative posts are about the US and how much better the rest of the world is. You constantly try to convince people here of the USA's inferiority and Australia's excellence, not matter what the subject matter may be. I stand by what I said, only a loser does what you do and say about the people here and the country in general. And you became a citizen on top of it, making you quite the hypocrite. The US is so bad, yet you compare everything to here. Why is that? Pick one of the good countries and compare Australia to them since the US is so insignificant. I'm sure the rest of the world would rather do business with Australia than the US.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news again but I am not a citizen. I was looking into it but stopped short when I realized that I had to swear allegiance.

The US has some great aspects but it also face some huge problems in 2010. That includes, for example, 45,000 dying from lack of health care in the 21st century. Sorry but no matter how you slice it, that is embarrassing. If you actually paid attention to the context of my posts, you would realize that they usually discuss others doing something specifically better, with it usually regarding quality of life, therefore, we can learn something from them. After all, you don't get to be number one by doing things worse than others. No? Most of these countries learned a thing or two from the US and that is how they are where they are. Whereas, it's a shame that many in the US have a problem with pride and refuse to learn from others.

Look, at the end of the day most of us are simply throwing out ideas. Even if all of us agreed with one another on here, we have diddly-squat in power to influence the country. It's probably my fault to begin with as I seem to forget this forum is filled with middle-aged American males, that have grown up and been indoctrinated to believe the US is the and all be all - the envy of the world. Sorry but that title is long gone.

Actually, Australia like Canada is respected more around the world. You don't need to believe me either, just pop into any other international forum and ask them, with all things being equal, who they would rather do business with. International, as in not asking the yank males on this forum.

You're nearly 3 times as likely to get brutally raped in Australia than in the US.

Australia posts higher numbers than the US in nearly every regard, even rape.

Surely less government and less police will fix that.

You're doing it again. It's a lost cause. I'm sure that Australia is the go to country for the rest of the world. You criticize those with pride in the US, yet you'er here, on a US immigration forum, crowing about your country and don't even live there. And can't figure out the attitude you get here? I find it difficult to believe that anyone so educated could be that stupid, but I'll admit to the forum that I was wrong. You're a real piece of work.
