Hey.

So yesterday a mom came in my office with her two children, her 14 year old son and her....at least...2 year old son. I mean I would say he was 2. He was running around and talking...

So, she is talking to me, and mid sentence, scooops up her son, ups her shirt, takes out her breast and starts breast feeding her 2 year old son without missing a beat.

1. Is that not a bit weird?

2. Is that not a bit OLD to be breast feeding?

Not a mom yet, so I really don't know...but I felt akward to be honest. I mean...she wasn't even trying to be discreet about it!

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

I've heard of people nursing up to that age and older. It seems old to me, but I don't know.

As you said in the other thread you went on acting like everything was normal... I would have done the same, while inside would have been thinking "what the heckkkkk!?".

I've heard of some women who breast feed until the child starts school.

As for breast feedng in public, I see nothing wrong with it. She probably did it to get the kid to shut up for a bit. And her ####### was full. I've heard that can be uncomfortable.

Yeah. It was hard. I didn't know where to look - I felt weird looking at her in ANY way cause I didn't want her to think I thought it was weird...or that I was checking her out - so I klept looking at her 14 year old son who prob thinks I was hitting on him I was so intent on him.

<sigh>

odd day overall I guess

glad I'm not alone here. Maybe it's my southern upbringing - and my sense of modesty - but really that was too much.

what was that movie where...I think it's Chris Rock... NO NO ITs Damon Wayons in MAjor PAyne...

HE goes, "Pop your tittie out that boy's mouth and let him grow up!" or something to that effect...

All I could hear in my head was damon wayans saying "Pop your tittiie out the boys mouth..."

HAHAHA made it hard not to laugh

How would you have reacted? I did nothing...just acted like it was normal - but I felt a bit weird to be hoenst.

I'd have not reacted outwardly, but inside I would have been thinking.. WHAT THE FOOK!!! That's just nuts!

I am a breastfeeding advocate...but...I think (keep in mind this is MY opinion) that a woman should do it discreetly if she chooses to do this in public. As for the age issue...personally I think if a child is able to walk around and talk he/she is WAY too old for breastfeeding! Time to dry up the milk mom!

If the kid has teeth and can chew up semi-solid to solid food, he doesn't need to be breastfed anymore, IMHO. Could you imagine the pain if the kid bit you?? Ouch!!!

My best friend got 'put off' breastfeeding when they're getting around 2 because of something she saw once in a restaurant.

There was a very insistant toddler (perhaps also 2 years old) pulling on her mom's skirt saying 'Titty, mama - titty!!'

If they're old enough to say that, then they're too old to be breastfed.

Just my .02. :)

I was just reading something about this on cnn - Lactivists: Where is it OK to breastfeed?

Now, I don't have kids, so I really don't know what I'll do. I definately won't be like that mom in Desperate Housewives who breast feeds her 5 year old. And, when I do it in public, I'm getting a somali khimar that drapes down over my waist so the baby and my chest will be covered. Seriously, it's not too difficult to carry around a nursing wrap or cover in your bag if you want to breastfeed in public.
