I like the one of the left better.

I like the roughness of the painting, how there's no defined lines.

I can't really say one is better than the other, it just depends on the person viewing it.

I have really limited knowledge when it comes to paintings although I enjoy visiting museums. A few weeks after I arrived in Santa Monica, I requested my husband to take me to the Getty Center. There were lots of Monet and Cezanne pieces there.

If the painting on the right was done by an impressionist then it is quite a sight.

Is the one on the right classified under neo-classicism or digital painting?

I like the lighting and colors on the right better. I would usually prefer the painting style on the left better, but there seems to be a "hotel art" quality about it, particularly the people in it, but that may be my bad eyes or their transformation into a digital format. Also, the church on the left seems to be a little warped. And the composition on the right is more interesting, though I prefer the trees on the left better.

If I hadn't seen them next to each other, I'd probably prefer the one on the left, but that red umbrella and the mother and child really frame out the image well on the right and my attention is drawn to the same area in the one on the left, and I'm bothered by how my eye is drawn off the painting by the line from the carriage to the couple under the umbrella to the person running off the edge of the image. And the one on the right glows more, making the one on the left seem dull when they are side-by-side.

I don't consider myself especially knowledgeable in art.

I like the left painting better. The picture is supposed to be portraying a rainy day and, to me, the left one looks more rainy than the right. The left one is more smudgy and just looks "wetter" if that makes sense

Although I love the gloominess of the left painting, I like the right one better because of the two person on the left bottom corner.. For some reason my eyes look at them as if they are the center of this painting and it's showing me the love of the father to the daugther (it's too small so it could be mother to daugther).

As of technique.. I have a very limited knowledge of art, but I think the right one has better technique simply because the painter has a way to play with the light and lit up the snow on the trees and the building.

The Getty Center is amazing, isn't it!

I like the one on the right better. It's an emotional thing. The one on the left is morbid. The one on the right is alive.

I love the Getty Center. One of these days, I'll request my husband to go with me to the Getty Villa in Malibu.
