According to the site, there's new rules regarding the I-864 that took effect on Friday. Most notable to me was:

--Reduces required inital documentation: each sponsor is now required to submit as initial evidence only his or her single most recent tax return.

--Provides mor flexible definition of "household size".

--Reduces the amount of assets that certain sponsors must show in order to cover any shortfall in their household income

It also means new forms have been released. Gah. Now I'm about ready to call an immigration lawyer due to some of these changes. For example, my husband and I are living with my parents while we pay off my student debts, before getting a house. This means that my co-sponsor may or may not be living with us when we interview, so I'm not sure if I should put my parents down as members of the household or not. Also, I don't have the last tax return, but I have almost a year's worth of pay stubs. Gah.

Tax returns are a must. You can get free transcripts by calling the IRS. You can use the search function here because I don't have the number offhand sorry.

But you absolutely need the tax returns for 2005 if you are filing soon.

As for household size, etc, you should put what reflects your situation at the time of filing. Don't worry about what happens down the road, that's what the AOS interview is for.

As for household size I am not 100% sure, but I do know there are many knowledgeable people here and one of them will be sure to post to help you.

But go get the tax returns. Regardless of what they say, you have to show them. I think it only takes about a week of you call the IRS number so you'll be ok.

Hope this helps.

my husband and i live with my mother and my disabled sister. when we filled out our AOS paperwork, we did not include them in our household size, as they are not dependent upon our income. at the interview, when we were asked who we live with, i did tell the officer that we shared a house with them, however they aren't dependent on our income, and he seemed satisfied with that answer.

hope that helps!

Good to know. I submitted my stuff with only a 2005 Tax return, and since that have been reading all about "employment letters" over this forum. I had expected to get an RFE soon for that, but I guess if now they *only* require 2005 Tax return I should be in the clear! Cool.

The old versions of the forms are still valid, so will be fine.
