Hello,

This is my first post in this forum. I wanted to ask if anyone knew about transferring university credits/diplomas from overseas (Specifically Russia).

My, S/O has the equivalent of a masters degree in journalism. We are about to have our interview in Moscow on the 6th and would like to get a jump start on things as soon as she gets her and has clearance to work or go to school.

I am completely in the dark about this stuff. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are (at least) two things to consider:

  1. Transferring credits in order to attend another institution here in the US
  2. Transferring credits/evaluating current level of education in order to get a job

Two different animals to be sure. For #1, it would be up to the individual institution's requirements (and none seem to have the exact same requirements). For the second, it can come down to the particular field she wants to work in. Its not as easy as it should be - that much is certain.

I was just looking into this matter today to find out what it takes to get into Master's program at university here. The university recommends getting the "Foreign Credential Evaluation of your academic transcripts and degree certificate. " and "The Foreign Credential Evaluations have to be performed by World Education Services (www.wes.org) or by an agency that is a member of NACES (www.naces.org)."

Note: A detailed evaluation by WES costs as much as $160..

We just checked into this at a local college for my wife, and got a similar answer. We have to submit the Russian documents and transcripts to an entity that translates them and evaluates them on a class by class basis, and specifically for this college. The total cost was WAGged at $200-$300.
