Well I booked in with Dr Charles (Dr. Okraglik) in Port Melbourne (His real name is Ogblobballlldwetgs but I can't spell it or pronounce it, either can he it seems koz he calls himself Dr Charles) and I was due at 10am.

I arrived at 9am (haha! early bird!) and I went in at 9:15am and they gave me some paperwork to fill out, with a laminated sheet of instructions on how to fill it all out.

On the phone prior, they asked me to bring 4 passport photos, but they only took ONE of them today and attached it to my records. Oh well...

Oh yes, I got American sized photos beforehand (2x2) and they turned out perfect. For those of you in Australia, ####### Smith did them for me for $4 for 6 photos. Pretty good price I think!

Anyway, so I filled out my forms, was expecting a urine test, so I was full of pee, and they didnt ask me for one!

I sat for about half an hour then the nurse came and took my blood pressure (HIGH!!!) and then weighed me (AAAAH) then my height (short ####) and then she took me to the end of the hallway where there was a guy to xray my chest.

I got put in a room which looked like a closet, and I had to change into my gown for the xray. My half sleeve of tattoos got attention from the old xray guy who said it looked like a rainforest on my arm (its flowers and bugs) and he proceeded to tell me to stand in front of a wall, and breathe in and hold my breath til he said I could stop. I let out a massive cough/splutter when that was done and I almost stuffed up the xray hahaha. OOPS!

Anyway after that, I got dressed, then went to get my blood test. The guy doing the blood test was awesome. He was young and he was super friendly. He said he has never been out of Australia and thought Kentucky sounded awesome. Yaay. He then took my blood, on my non tattooed arm, and then said good luck and I went to wait for the DOCTOR!

Doctor came out pretty quick, I had been told he wasn't that friendly but he was cool with me. He took my blood pressure again, this time it was NORMAL and then he said "thats better, you must have been nervous when the nurse did it earlier" NO ###### BUDDY!!!! haha.

He then got me to pull up my top (oooh) and did the heart beat stuff, and breathing in and out while he listened. Then he got me to open my mouth, he checked that, checked my ears then asked me a series of questions.

He asked if I drink, NO. Smoke, NO. Have I been in trouble with the law, NO. How old am I, 28. He asked me that 3 times actually, I wonder if he was checking to see if I was insane.

Then I got my ankles checked, I have a fused left ankle with lots of scars so he asked me about that, and about a breast reduction I had 2 years ago. He also asked about pap smears and breast exams, I said I have had both in the past year.

He asked if I ever had chicken pox... NO. So I had to get tenanus, varicella (chicken pox vaccine) and ummmm oh yeah, the measles/mumps/rubella as I didn't have an update since I was a child.

So after that, he pressed on my stomach, pelvis, arms, neck, chest, and then saw more tattoos and he made me explain every tattoo, where I got it, if it was an actual tattoo artist, then what they all were and he wrote them all down on my forms!!!!! He said afterwards "wow you like body art huh?" and I said "my husband has more than I do" and he and I both laughed then he said "you will make a good couple then!"

After that, he said I looked fit and healthy and to go wait for my vaccinations and he would post me my results in a week.

I waited half an hour for my 3 vaccines, two in one arm, one in the other.. then I went to get my eyes tested, and I had to take my glasses off and my right eye couldnt read ANY of the letters haha so she let me put my glasses on and laughed about it.

I then paid for it all... Here is the awful part!!!

$330 for the day... PLUS the three vaccines was a total of.... $509!!!!

AARRRGGGHHH!

I asked if I could claim it on Medicare.. nope... DOH!

So I left, about 3 hours after arriving, a pretty happy girl.. but sore from all the needle jabbing hahah.

Hope this helps anyone nervous about their medical, and also about the doctor in Melbourne. I would totally reccommend Dr Charles Okraglik.. he was fabulous and really kind.

The nurses were great too, and all wished me luck.

The premises have everything there, and I've heard Dr Poppenbok in Melbourne doesn't have it all at his surgery so you have to go down the road for xrays etc...

:)

Hey - glad it all went OK! Not looking forward to my vaccinations ... but here's the killer. The actual exam itself in Brisbane WITHOUT any extras is $470!! How come it's so cheap in Melbourne??

hey! Good story. Very nice :P

I wonder why they didn't need a urine test... maybe they test me to see if I'm pregnant? and 'cause you're married (right??) that wouldn't matter for you? Hmm I really don't know.

I was happy to see you had a good experience. YAY! Thats all done and it's VERY exciting :) Keep us updated. I'll add this to my watch list :D

Why did you guys ask if I was really 28?

Oh and in answer to the other question, I saw the panel doctor who is of course the right one. It's on the website and the consulate told me also.

Glad your medical went well. I am going to be ringing the Panel doctors in brissie tomorrow to see how much they are and any other info I need...Haven't gotten my NOA2 yet but am trying to line all my ducks up in a row so when I comes, I am out of the gate like a shot! Donna, the doctor just asked if you had chicken pox as a child...I had it when I was four, you reckon I need to prove that somehow?

I hope you get your interview soon, I know what it's like to miss key dates and it sucks more than iSnack 2.0. I'm thinking of you!
