My boyfriend asked a few lawyers in New York recently. All of them told him that K1 application is getting so difficult now, because there have been so many people went with fake intent to get married. The goverment is not buying most of the stories now. So it's almost impossible to get to america with a K1 visa.

Did anyone hear about this too? Could this be true?

There are many many many people here on VJ with no issues getting a K-1 visa. I can only see a lawyer saying this from a high fraud country

Good luck.

Thanks to this forum, the K-1 process is pretty easy to do on your own. Just follow the guide. AND, these Lawyers want your boyfriend's money. This is why they say it is hard. But, really look at the guides here on VJ. You can do this unless you have some circumstance that requires an attorney. I do not think the K-1 is any more difficult to get today than it was 5 or 10 years ago. In fact, I think its more easy thanks to this website. good luck.

Comments : She recived the first notice from Manila on Valentines day. Perfect timing.

The first setback came during the medical. Naty had to do the 3 day sputum and then we waited 2 months for the results. YESSSS>came back negative

Went for her interview on July 16th and received her Pink Slip......Finally. Paid the AIR21 and I expect her here August 10th, 2009. Marriage will be August 21st, exactly 4 years to the day that we first met.

A lot of people say this but if your situation is for real you should have no problem. The more communication and visits you have had during the courtship the better. I had friends and random people tell me that the K-1 was impossible to get and this was while I was waiting...it made me so sad. Yet my love is here and we are married and happy and starting to build a life together. The waiting is hard but once you are together it seems like nothing. Good Luck! We didn't use a lawyer.

If you are into a real relationship i don´t see the problems, just keep all the prove that you both can save and you will be done. Start reading the guides here and you can do the whole by yourself. You don´t need a lawyer for this.

I have a K1 approved, we going to blowing it up and getting marry here in my homeland in order to apply for a CR-1. I am talking to you for my own experience.

Just read, read and read, this is the main thing for understanding this process. Good luck!!!!

:guides: and ask questions where you dont understand. If your relationship is for real and both of you meet the requirements, your visa will be approved! Good luck.

I think they are trying to upsell you to a more expensive service!!!!

Right. Unfortunately, there's a slim chance the attorney is right, and making this comment based on the country. We don't know, because the OP has left out that vital information. There are a few countries and sets of circumstances I too would say this about. I certainly would say it about any relationship I knew was fraudulent. I'd say some other things too.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

These lawyers are trying to use fear to make it sound like you need them to help you with your case when in fact many people diy. Of course the diy way is not for everyone and everyone's case in unique and may have unique complications that may require legal council like criminal records, over stay on a tourist/ work visa, health complications, etc..... Each consulate has different policies and procedures although most generally follow the same guidelines, but some can be very strict. Before you do anything read up on the K-1 visa there are many great guides and ppl that can help you on VJ. If you find there is an issue that may need legal representation then I would shop around a little more. It really sounds like the you mentioned are trying to fear you into hiring them. Good luck!

you know your case better than us, give details such as location, problems you know of etc then more can be examined BUT if just two people together wanting to marry, then depending on other information should be no problems. Location sometimes gives problems and longer times but it can happen, divorces are no probems frompast. You DO have to meet face to face, follow the rules and wait it out usually lawyers are (not) needed (unless less you know the reasons for this)

You mite want to rethink about using a lawyer. Because the best people and info is right here on this site. Dont be double talked and mislead by a greedy lawyer. Because the only good lawyer is a dead lawyer as they say.
