My hubby and I are dealing with the Russian culturisms that pop up daily as he makes the adjustment to American life. Thought others may like to share some of theirs too. Here goes!

Honey, we don't need to save ALL of the cardboard, boxes, plastic and other junk from everything we buy.

Honey, the pool house is not a сарай, people use it to change into their swimsuits. Please take all of the cardboard boxes, plastic and junk out of there.

Honey, please don't load up the grocery cart with 300 of everything. The store will have the same stuff next week, next month, and forever.....

I agree those plastic bags are perfect for putting in the diaper pail and throwing out every couple of days, plus using them for bathroom trash can liners etc. And I take the cardboard boxes and newspapers to work and use them for packing.

Sorry about this as I'm not from Russia, so I can clearly understand if stocking up on things is needed. But I do find this one statement humourous. I just love they way you stated it....

No, you're right. America or not, he should be carrying his driver's license!

Exactly! He thinks he can show them later, if he would get pulled over.

You can show the judge your license and insurance later in many states, and have the citation dropped. You would still have to go through the hassle of appearing, etc. though.

To the OP - Vika does none of those things. She does buy copious (for me) amounts of fish, shellfish, and fresh fruit and vegetables. Not a bad thing - but she is ever opposed to processed foods, chemicals, or additives and preservatives. She also persists in putting leftovers on a regular plate inside the frig, no matter how many times I ask her to use tupperware.

I hate not having an organized fridge. I have pots and pans, plates, etc. on every shelf. Also, condiments go in the door, not on the main shelf. I have been banging my head against the wall - "The zippers on the bags can CLOSE to keep the food fresh. This little tab here CLOSES to keep the food fresh. We have plastic wrap and aluminum foil to COMPLETELY COVER the food with, so it stays fresh. The lid on that pot should COMPLETELY COVER the pot so the food stays fresh."

I'm also trying to convince my wife that we don't need to get down and scrub the floor every couple of days. The wood doesn't have to be gleaming.

We're still working on the 40-hour work week too. She's getting there, but it seems like she'd prefer to work 12 days in a row and then take a month off. Me too, but it's hard to pay the bills like that.

This will bug me also. I like a clean kitchen and a decent smelling refrigerator. I prefer pots and pans in the drawer after being washed, not stored with dried caked food on the sides in the refrigerator.

I don't know the EXACT words to that song, but the tune sounds familiar  Now, I really don't care if she wants her left-over carp in the air for three days before she eats it, but I would prefer not to smell the carp for the three days. Same issue with wraps and lids that fit. She still won't use the microwave often, because you know the radiation will poison the food and is not healthy. Considering where she is from I usually let that go B)

Wow. My thoughts exactly.

Don't know why Svetlana likes leaving food out and uncovered. She discovered Fritos corn chips, loves them, but leaves the bag open, too. I take a chip from the bag a couple of days later, and it's, uh, not fresh.

When I visited her in Saint-Petersburg I noticed those tiny little flying bugs hovering around the kitchen table. I mention it to Svetlana . . . and she looks at me like I'm a space alien. "So?"
