Hi everyone,

I am new here and enjoyed reading everyone's response, but I have a few questions,

I am petitioning for my stepsons and was wondering how long does NVC takes to complete case after receiving DS 230?

DS 230 received at NVC 5/28/09 still no response from NVC.

Also, I see some of you get failed log in at NVC site, what site are you talking about. Is there a website at NVC that I can look up the status of my case?

I filed a I130 petition for Children under 21 of USC in January and recvd approval in April 14. I am hoping to get my stepsons here in time to start the school year, can anyone offer any advice that could speed up the process.

Thanks everyone for your response.

I would say allow 2 weeks to get your case complete after your DS-230 is in the NVC system. The failed log-in that you see people talking about is the sight where you paid the AOS & DS-230 fees and printed the barcode coversheet from. Once your case is almost done you can no longer log-in to that payment site, Most people get their case complete the day after that happens.

If you get your case complete within the next week you might get a late July interview BUT you may fins it will be in August.

Good Luck

Filed for my step-son.

NVC received case on 5/19, was approved 6/2. Interview is 7/1. (every embassy is different; some embassys have little or not wait time)

For anyone embarking the process, make sure you have your step child's ORIGINAL birth ceritificate. Not just a certified copy! (It will be needed at the NVC stage) Also make sure he/she has a passport with his/her name and DOB matching exactly what is on his/her birth certificate. Finally make sure you obtain a signed affidavit from the other parent, granting custody and permission for the child to leave the country.

You want to make sure you have a consent from the father for the child to leave the country. Even if his name is not on the birth certificate, unless of course you list unknown for father and the child does not know the father. You don't want to lie, they may ask the child about father.

Since your husband is sponsoring the child the consent should also list his name and that the child will reside with both of you in the US.

I sponsored 2 of my stepchildren in 2006 and they were asked about their mother even though my husband was never married to their mother, but we had court order giving both of us full legal and physical custody of the children.

Send the I130 with copy of child's birthcertificate, your married certificate, any previous divorced decree for your husband (since he is the petitioner) and a notarized letter from the other parent giving consent (they will RFE you for this is you don't they did the first time for me) and copy of your husband's birthcertificate and citizenship certificate or passport page. and the fees.

Good luck, Keep us posted.

I have the same concern here because my husband(USC) wants to file petition to my child (6 yrs. old, his step daughter). What if the name of the father is not on her birth certificate and we don't know where he is now? My child doesn't know who her father is... How will we get a notarized consent from the father? Will they allow my 6yrs old child accompanied by someone during her interview to explain the situation?

It differes, My cases was around the Christmas holiday's in 2007 so it took a little longer. We also received the RFE for the notorized letter.

In answer to hunnybay try and post in the phillipines thread as I am sure I have read where the father was not listed on the BC and was unknown. If the father is listed then the letter is needed no matter what or NVC will not process the case.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?
