Permanent Resident Card Production Delays

USCIS is announcing that applicants may experience up to an eight week delay in the delivery of their permanent resident card while we are in the process of upgrading our card production equipment. USCIS Field Offices will be issuing temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp to applicants approved for permanent residence at the time of their interview. You will need to take your passport to your appointment. If you do not have a passport, you must bring a passport style photo and government issued photo identification to receive temporary evidence of permanent residence.

If the application is approved subsequent to your interview or by a Service Center or the National Benefit Center, the applicant should bring the above documents to an INFOPASS appointment to be issued temporary evidence of permanent residence in the form of an I-551 stamp.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

so that means 8 weeks from the card production email/notice or 8 weeks from the approval notice that we received in the mail which said 60 days?

it does answer alot of questions though

thanks

now we can put all the permanent resident card posts to rest---lol

My guess is the delay is an additional 8 weeks on top of the 60 days for 'normal' processing. But I only say that because the USCIS has made me a 'glass half empty' kind of person! Expect the worst, hope for the best.

lets hope and pray its from the day our decision date was made on our approval notice/mail and NOT 8 weeks on top of card production email/notice---that would really be a long long long time to recieve the card--i really dont feel like going to any more INFOPASSES if i dont have too--

all we can do is hope

Hi Kathryn41 (and Everyone),

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, Kathryn41 for posting this updated information about the Green Card Production Delays!....

It definitely was very helpful, indeed! So it looks like it is "officially" the USCIS' fault for everyone's recent delays after all! (and not just a fluke of some sort of for only certain cases)

At least they had admitted to such a fault (though a little too late for that in my case) in this recent "USCIS press release".

On that note, due to this current news, I just scheduled an INFOPASS appointment to get to the bottom of this....Let's see if what happens there when I confront them...lol....

Boy, am I glad that I renewed my Canadian passport recently (even though I didn't want to), as in the back of my mind I knew that some sort of delay would happen with I-751s, and sure enough, it did....(what a scary prediction come true..... ).

Lesson learned: Be prepared for anything with the USCIS!

And yes, I encourage others who are in the same situation to schedule an INFOPASS appointment as well.

Good luck with the rest of your immigration journeys too. Hope you all get your Green Cards asap!

Feel way better now. I wish they announced this before they actually started the upgrade, but...better now than never :)

I hope that soon we will have a wave of "I got my GC today" topics.

Hi Everyone,

I wonder the same thing too...8 weeks from card production ordered, or 8 weeks from approval notice...as that makes a big difference, indeed!

Oh well, one can only hope that they meant the earlier, versus the later......

As for putting those permanent resident cards posts to rest...I don't think so, as with this news comes more posts about this here on VJ...

This is just the beginning of an even longer wait ahead....

The I-751 Journey continues....

8 weeks from card production ordered, or 8 weeks from approval notice

I think it means 8 weeks from card production ordered. At least when I had an infopass the other day, the IO told me that my new card had been ordered 2 weeks before, and if I I don't receive it in 6 weeks, I could have another infopass or call 1-800 number to inquire about my card. 2 week + 6 weeks = 8 weeks

USCIS is really driving me crazy!

My I-751 to CSC was finally approved after nearly 7 months of waiting, and now I have to deal with this.

I will be moving soon, and it just gives me headaches thinking about calling them for change of address and more delays.

Do they produce the cards in CSC or in local offices?

Hi Everyone,

Same here.....I cannot wait another 8 weeks for the 10yr green card!

This is driving me crazy  too, because:

1) I have waited 10 months so far (and am still waiting)...Isn't that long enough already?

2) My Baby is due in 8 weeks...(I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant)....I cannot expect a baby and a card at the same time!

3) I am physically and emotionally getting sick over this...Definitely not a good situation here....

4) I only have until June 15th (2 more weeks) to get all my travelling done, as after that point, medically I am not allowed to travel. So if I can't get my card by then, it will be a waste here, since I can't use my new card for travelling purposes at all.

5) I need to make a trip back to Canada in the next 2 weeks, so that I can borrow $670 from family/friends for Citizenship to be filed in August. The sooner I get this done, the sooner I can "get rid of the USCIS" forever!

6) New stricter border crossing requirements + No Valid Green Card = Problems!

7) I will be moving to a new location/house before 8 weeks. Will my new card get lost in the mail?

8) I am in extra $545 in debt because of this I-751 process. Shouldn't I get what I paid for in a timely manner? What a waste of money and time, indeed!

Talk about stress....Thanks a lot USCIS for the latest "extra delays"!....

Sorry...just needed to vent a bit here.....Sigh..... :crying:
