The USCIS, although I have informed them 3 different times that my wife and I have moved, managed to send her permanent resident card to the wrong address each time. And, this third time, I received a note saying the card has been lost. Apparently I need to file something new, which will cost me $300 plus. I'm tired of filing ####### and paying money. It's their error.

They flipping lost something because they hire idiots and I'm supposed to pay for it. And pay for what? So we can wait some more for their next error. Are they kidding?

I know the answer. They aren't.

The USCIS is sick. I wish the media would cover it a bit more. Wait, I don't mean that. That would imply the media cover the legal-immigration process at all. With all the junk they talk about other political stuff, you figure the disaster that is the USCIS would get a mention. Legal immigration and total government incompetence might score some ratings. Especially since, I'm sure, fixing legal immigration would go a long way toward solving illegal immigration.

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa

I changed it twice on the AR-11 online. And I changed it three times via telephone. I guess the last time they finally bothered to write down my new address since I received the note saying they lost the card. I wouldn't put it past them to forget to put a stamp on it or to seal the envelope. Maybe it is in one of the couch cushions in USCIS headquarters. I think you have to have an IQ below zero to work at the USCIS.

I've tried to my best to find a way around this. I even made an infopass meeting and that didn't work either. I'm going to have to reapply, pay that ridiculous sum of money that I don't have, then hope for the best.

If you have the AR-11 confirmations that show you changed the address with them and they wouldn't accept those as proof at an INFOPASS, I'd write your Senator or Representative.

Isn't a fee waiver available for the I-90 in these circumstances (assuming you can show proof that you submitted the AR-11)??? Sounds like "service error" to me...

What sort of timespan are we talking about between you submitting the AR-11 and USCIS mailing the green card?

Unfortunately, the no fee I-90 for service error doesn't always work. My wife sent one last year for her green card. Six months later, they sent her a new card WITH THE SAME ERROR ON IT! :)

I always write in my threads which is :

NEVER NEVER EVER CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS DURING AOS PROCESS !......

They never update & always use the old one. If you really have to move & change your address,

you had better do the address change at the post office too. So, they can forward your mails to new address.

Now you have to file I-90 & pay $370 to get the GC (due to lost) . I know it doesn't make sense, it was not your fault,

but you have to pay for it. You can not win against government & you can not prove that you have changed your address

million times, they don't want to hear that. GOOD LUCK !.......

A similar thing has happened to me, although I have finally received my greencard after 2 previous attempts to get it to me. I changed my address the way they tell you too and called them to confirm it, still it made no difference. Finally I asked to speak to an immigration officer who could access all my details and she was shocked to find my new address had not been added. My advice is no matter who you speak to, make sure they have all the information in front of them because certain people (The change addrees section especially!) do not have access to all your information.

Somebody told me on here that you should never move and I made a big mistake, but to put it plain and simple 'I had no choice!' and people should do their jobs properly, especially when they expect us to fill all these forms out correctly.

Good luck with all your bad luck and I hope it gets sorted very soon!

I think you have enough material to complain to congressman or senator. There are just too many cases when the change of address did not work. I have been living with my mother-in-law for almost six months only for one reason, filing I-90 and waiting for a new green card. Husband and I do not even dare to move and change the address until we get hold of the green card. My case has been approved, card production ordered a week ago, but now I am so paranoid that I think a tornado might blow my mailbox away. Seriously...

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be talking to my congressman's office.

As far as having proof that I filled out the AR-11, I don't. I've moved twice since this process started and have never received any kind of confirmation - not in E-mail, not with any page I'm supposed to print. The only thing I got is the CRIS password changes on the days I filled out the AR-11. I never remember my password and have to change it every time I get on that thing.

I'm surprised anybody has received confirmation from the AR-11. I didn't receive it the first time I moved (which USCIS did manage to grasp with no problem.) And I didn't receive a confirmation either of the times I did it for the second move. I figured that's the way they did it. I figured they didn't want to bother giving us any proof of anything.

I had no choice in moving. I have to go where they offer work. Of course, leave it to the stinking USCIS to punish me for it. I suppose they'd prefer my wife came over illegally, and I sat on my fat butt and applied for welfare. God forbid if somebody wants to work for a living and marry a legal immigrant who they actually love.

The lady at the USCIS crummy phone service kind of sounded like she knew what she was talking about today. She said I could fill out the I-90, not include a check, and, instead, write a letter explaining why I shouldn't have to pay. I know the USCIS will say no and will give no reason as to why they came to their incorrect decision. But whatever. I'll try it anyway. I don't have $300 plus to blow on some stupid application. Haven't they got a clue that we're flipping legal by now? For God's sake, they are the ones who approved us in the first place?

I'll probably end up having to pay and they'll most likely screw something else up that I'll have to pay for with money I don't have. Meanwhile, my wife still can't leave the country. She's been here for a year and a flipping half and still isn't allowed to leave the country to visit family. One close member of her family has already died and had a funeral she couldn't attend thanks to that piece of crud USCIS.

Who did you speak to? The first person who picked up or did you get transferred to an immigration officer?

It sounds like she was suggesting you file along with a fee waiver request. I think this is something you should try and if they reject it, then re-file with the fee. Instructions are here. Mainly, it talks about waivers for those who can't pay but I'm almost certain it's available when a 'service error' has occurred too...

When you file the AR-11 online, the system generates a PDF version of the form that includes a confirmation number that USCIS received it. It tells you tp print a copy for your records. Also, since you are your wife's sponsor for the Affidavit of Support, you should have filed form I-865 each timeyou moved (in addition to the AR-11). USCIS sends receipt notices for the I-865.

We've moved twice and we have printed copies of the online AR-11s with confirmation numbers on them and the I-865 receipt notices.

Without any documentation to prove you changed your address, it's your word against theirs and you'll probably have to pay for the new card.
