Mission/ Work (Trip) Romance Questions

Hi All,

My pastor asked me to share my romance experience with her and since my relationship ended up being a dangerous one, I didn't want to tell her the scary stuff and forego the good parts.

So wanted to know how many have met their SO while on a work or church related trip. If so, what would be some of the advice you'd give to another person who met their SO while on a trip similar to yours?

Example: If you went through an orientation process before going, would you have been interested in knowing about the Immigration process beforehand? Would you have thought twice about entering into a serious long distance relationship had you known how hard the process would be?

My husband and I met in the Dublin Galway train he was visiting the country with his 3 brothers and one friend of his ....

He wanted my phone number but I did not want to give to him I just was out of a relationship and the next day when I was on my way home I bumped into him by accident and he asked me to go for a drink and since then we been together for now nearly 7 years we traveled back and forward for nearly 2 years.

We met while I was in my husband's country. My going there was not missions-related, nor was it directly work related. I went in a volunteer capacity. There was no formal orientation prior to going. All we got was some literature about the country where were travelling and about the others in the group since we were coming from different corners of the country and the world. To be honest I had no intention of meeting anyone during my trip as I was already dating someone else before I left. Obviously you should never say never.

As far as giving or receiving info/advice on possible relationships that might crop up...I don't think that should be part of the orientation. The impetus for a missions or work trip is just that - fulfilling the mission or performing the work project. Any orientation should focus on the cultural and social customs of the location where that person is travelling. Whether a person chooses to begin a relationship while on a missions/work trip is their business IMO.

I met my husband while I was working in his country, but it was definitely NOT church related. Like taurean, I was not looking to have a relationship though my previous relationship had ended before I moved to Brazil.

Sorry it took a while to get to this I am still in the Boston area and trying not to go crazy. No it wasn't a missionary trip. But yes my employer knows , they have to be informed of such things.
