New Jersey Driver's License for Canadian?

My wife and I have been going through the K1 process, she got her EAD last week and her Social Security Card today and have her AOS interview April 30th. She wants to get a driver's license.

She is 23 yrs old (24 in october) so is there a way to just tranfer the license over?

i read somewhere about "obtaining a permit for a non citizen?"

She has been driving since she was 16 in Canada and has a full Ontario license!! PLEASE tell me she does not have to get a permit?? She needs to be able to drive by herself to and from work. Please help!!

I thought that you could drive in the U.S. with a Canadian driver's license. ?? Surely people drive across the border all the time and don't have a U.S. license. I think she should be fine on her Canadian license until she can get the U.S. one. I can't see the purpose for a "permit". She will probably have to take the written test to get her license though. Your best bet is to call the DMV for your state and see what their requirements are.

Moving this to the correct forum.

Most states will accept a Canadian DL, and replace it for a state DL with evidence of legal presence status (EAD OR Green-card)

From reading the NJ DMV website, it seems the "permit" is a permit to take the test and get the license. It is not a learner's permit. :-) She should be OK.
