In January, we got the bill for the Affidit of Support, the $70 one. They had an option to pay online, so I immediately sat down and paid it right off the bat.

Now, here's the thing: All over the place, there are warnings and cautions NOT to send in the forms too early. The NVC will contact you, and THEN you send it in, and only then. So like a patient little person, I sat and waited. And waited. And waited.

About 5 days ago, I got another bill, this time for $400, for Immigration Visa Processing. Same directions. Pay, and wait for the NVC to give you the go-ahead.

So I got to thinking, and I emailed them on 3/19, asking if I'd missed a mailing about the Affidit. No response.

Today, the 24th, I called them.

Well, it turns out, that when you pay online, the NVC's notion of 'contacting you to send in the forms' is a little link appearing once your online invoice status changes from Pending to Paid. No physical mailing, not even an email, just a small wording change that isn't very conclusive, and when you follow the link, you land on yet another page where it cautions you not to jump the gun and send it in too early.

The poor gal on the phone, as soon as I asked the question, gave a sigh that spoke of much frustration, the sigh you give when you know your work is screwing up but there's nothing you can do about it no matter how much you want to, and you really really want to.

So, to all of those who opt to pay their fees online: When your invoice's status changes to Paid, this is the closest the NVC will get to notifying you to carry on.

I suggest you read the NVC short cut wiki. It helped me through the NVC billing process!

WOWWWWWWWW, I totally know how u feel! I am in the same exact rocky boat!! I have both cover sheets and receipts showing paid but lawyer still swears he is awaiting the go ahead from NVC to send all completed packets!! But why do the operators seem so unwilling to explain clearly what's going?? Every operator I talked to said to go ahead and send the packets as long as we have our cover sheet, but none sounded 100% absolutely sure why the website cautions u not to and to wait. That is what has gotten me so freakin confused!!

The payment status changing to Paid, and the ability to print out the barcoded coversheets for the respective packages is the indication to move onto the next step. Of course before submitting the packages you should speak with an operator at NVC and confirm that your payments have been accepted and you can mail in the packages.

Thanks Q, we decided to mail everything in by Monday at the latest. I did confirm we were all paid up with an operator. She did say they are trying to fix the system. There seem to still be a few glitches on their end of which they are well aware.

You should push for sending out the packages by Friday, as you are trying to get your case completed by the end of the first week of April.

Good Luck!!
